Re-live peopleWatching Season 1 today, and receive the gift of being distracted from reality for like 75 minutes! Actually the show repeatedly refers to reality and how fucked we all are, but it's at least pretty funny..!

Been at this over 20 years, it's important you have your own site, I have seen publishers come and go, promises broken and sites burnt, others castles (sites) will sink and you will have to rebuild when they do. Only your own castle will last you a lifetime.

See the particular effectiveness (and courage) of organized nonviolent resistance with what's happening in Minnesota: *anyone* can participate, young and old alike, and so they do; worldwide media attention is gained; it's very clear who the antagonists are, so nobody watching can pretend otherwise.
Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).

Every time I go back to Subnormality (usually to find Everything's Better With Cheese) I end up rereading old favourites.

Count to Ten is about choice and yearning, and these panels still make me cry every time I read them.

It's just sad that one of the most historically successful cartoonists dies and all anyone can rightly feel is pity at life wasted in avarice and bigotry. Learn the lessons he didn't- don't get validation from money, don't stop being accountable, don't decide it's normal when nobody respects you.

This book is vital modern history from @juliaioffe.bsky.social Read it, especially the unbearable parts. Learn from history- how misogyny is inherent to authoritarianism, and the total oblivion of the human spirit for *all* people at the end of patriarchy's dark corridor. This is the human struggle.

I rarely feel strongly enough about things to write a review, but this 80-page book by Emily Dickinson's niece, describing what her aunt was like, is easily my favorite thing i read this year, and i highly recommend it.

I still believe in the webcomics dream of 20 years ago when the "infinite canvas" of the computer screen let comic strips be as long and as weird and as horizontal-scrolling as possible, before phone screens began to reign in the medium again. As always read for free:

In terms of how they contrast, effective writing is when little actually happens yet you feel like you've gone on a journey, whereas naïve writing is when you're taken on the most elaborate journey, but, when you think about it, little has actually happened.

I'm sure OP envisions moral boundaries or even evils but it is important to remember that this applies to acts of Justice as well.
Don't just think about how many steps away you are from a moral atrocity or violence, think about how many steps away you may be from an act of bravery or kindness.
Think of morality in terms of stairs-- whatever we do enables us to then easily do something one step beyond that. Don't ask "should i do this," ask "do i want to be somewhere a few steps from here," because *that's* what may eventually seem exactly as reasonable as what you're considering now.

One of my biggest takeaways from the new Robert Crumb biography is the recurring theme of him selling his original art and sketchbooks over the years, and the independence that granted. A literally valuable lesson: you can sell what you own (and a reminder of what AI art is meant to steal from you).

🖤RIP Drew Struzan

Legendary artist Drew Struzan has died at the age of 78.

His work has inspired generations of artists, and while his most famous illustrated movie posters include the other 'Star' franchise, he did a number of beautiful pieces for #StarTrek.
