Advocacy never stops! Join @abundanthousingil.bsky.social for this training to expand legalized ADUs. It’s critical we maximize the number of wards this this is legalized in for several reasons 1) wards change over time, get as much possible now 2) sets precedent for true citywide expansion
On Tuesday, October 21, join Abundant Housing Illinois and Strong Towns Chicago to learn how you can help your alderperson opt-in their ward to Chicago’s new ADU ordinance! 🏘️

Haven’t been on here in a minute. Life has been a …lot.

Not in the way it has been for people terrorized by these assholes, I rarely get out so I’m just trying to help from the keyboard [tho helicopters woke me up today]

But I need to get back to talking to people. And not randos on IG 😬

I love this ❤️ (The headline makes it sound a little more random than it is— the article talks more about the group, who sounds great)

Chicago Cyclists Are Buying Out Tamale Carts To Keep Vendors Home And Safe From ICE

(Re my Tylenol snark.) I wanted to repost here -- this is valid and I didn't mean "it doesn't work" to be a takeaway or derail from the *access* and *pain management* implications of the government officially advising against an OTC.

I've never been pregnant but I can't imagine having NO options.
It’s the only thing considered safe for pain during pregnancy. I took it during both of mine for relief. It absolutely gives relief.

Look, I hate Tylenol/paracetamol. It doesn’t do shit for pain at safe doses. It’s the leading cause of acute liver failure in the US, and the #1 drug of overdose (accidental or not) in like 5 countries.

…Because it causes autism? lol that’s not even getting the BAD SCIENCE right

Look, it always feels extra hokey for #LaborDay to be in Sep. when you're in Chicago, given that May 1 as Intl Worker's Day relates to Haymarket.

And it is: The federal holiday is literally in September to avoid socialist and anarchist overtones.

But I'm always happy to repost labor rights stuff.

Perhaps, one day, schoolkids will study this squalid little chapter in British terror-panic history. When they do, I hope these two headlines from today are printed side by side, with clear annotation of which individual faced more outrage and condemnation.

“ … people who caught SARS-CoV-2 at all, regardless of vaccination status, were more likely to experience or be diagnosed with mental health conditions—including depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, addiction, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, self-harm, and suicide—within a month …”
Covid infections raise mental health & suicide risks. Even mild cases boost depression risk by 20%, regardless of vax status. Public health failed to communicate this, letting anti-vaxxers fill the gap with disinfo.

Please make your resistance efforts accessible!

It’s important to commit to not leaving disabled people behind.

We can bring a lot to the fight, but it starts with a commitment to inclusion.

That includes wearing masks so you can keep yourselves (and us!) healthy!

"A survey of one thousand OB-GYNs...found that fewer than one in five received any training about the health care needs of disabled people, and about the same proportion felt adequately prepared to manage the pregnancies of women with disabilities."
Disabled people are 11 times more likely to die during labor/in the postpartum period than non-disabled people. Better education and smashing ableism is how we get out of this horrible stat.

For the past year, I’ve been looking into the topic of disability and pregnancy for @motherjones.com 🧵
Pregnancy is a minefield when you're disabled
Few OB-GYNs get disability training—and their disabled patients are far likelier to die.

(cw: mention of suicide/surviving a friend)

And then sometimes, despite listening to both and generally keeping my shit together, Spotify shuffles on A Wave Across A Bay (Frank Turner’s song for Scott Hutchison) and I just start bawling like a child at my desk

That chorus. Man.

Hi everyone! I’ve unfortunately been diagnosed with a likely rib fracture from the hospital. Likely it occurred on Friday, August 8 during a protest where I was in the middle of asking for a PIO/supervisor.

As is clear in the video, I waited for a moment for a break in the line moving forward.

American policing in a nutshell tbh
I asked one of the D.C. cops on the scene at today's protest how he feels about Trump's takeover of DC police. He said he and others don’t know who’s in charge at the moment and there’s been no guidance.
