Aargh! Got my first (and probably last, they'll never invite me back) book club event on Thursday and they've just sent me the questions. They're also doing a quiz about the book - what if I, the author, get all the answers wrong?

Excited and also mildly alarmed by it all.

Does Beth Rigby ever stop interrupting? It’s almost constant - asks person a question and she talking over them before they’ve even said one word in response. I’m sure she used to be better than this.

The Prime Minister said in September that we are at a fork in the road. These asylum proposals suggest we have taken the wrong turning.

The idea that recognised refugees need to be deported is wrong.

Good lord.

Also, genuinely interesting thread for someone who knows zero about graphic design.
Okay, I can't let this one go. I live in Ireland, not the UK, but the use of this image by a supposedly socialist party is so stupid and offensive, I'm going to get stuck in.

Let me explain to you why any experienced illustrator/designer could have stopped you making so many miserable mistakes. 1/

Go on, Ed. Drag him.
Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

I’ve got 4,5 and 6 on permanent loop at the moment. Mainly 6.
Note from my notebook (2018). Still relevant.

Hopefully someone can help me. It's a dashi miso issue. I've got dashi stock, and dashi miso paste, but the recipe says make dashi then add miso. What's that about - do I make some dashi stock then separately add miso paste? I've dashi miso paste, not miso paste.

Very confused.

I saw this film when I was probably too young and it gave me a lifelong fear of very black eyes (pupils, not bruises). I was terrified for weeks after and even recently, after having those eyedrops that enlarge your pupils, I was wary about accidentally looking in a mirror for the next three hours
Sat Nov 8, 9pm, @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social, Murder by Decree pits Christopher Plummer and James Mason as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson vs Jack the Ripper and an establishment plot to cover up the sex-crimes of the British royal family. 4/5. #TPTVsubtitles

This interview on Sky right now is so depressing. Jess Philips is so clearly the next target for the rw. And the grooming inquiry only came about because of opposition pressure. Fml.

They’re backing Rupert Lowe to fix it instead. I could weep.

Why had I never heard of Black Monday 1360 before? Straight into the second book, no messing.

Why is this not better known - it sounds completely terrifying!

Am I alone in watching Lidia Poet on Netflix? Series 1 was ok but 2 is proving highly entertaining.

Also - if you like frocks the costumes are amazing (no idea if they’re authentic, the 1880s are not my period).

Courtesy of @showerabsolute.bsky.social * I tried some of those San Nicasia or whateverthey'recalled crisps and now I can't stop eating them.

Honestly thought that crisps marked "olive oil" flavour would be a bit meh but they are a revelation.

*I think that's who recommended them anyway...

Any of you people who know how to cook got any (easy) ideas for a savoy cabbage side dish?

I was going to fry it in butter with maybe some caraway seed but that's all I ever do so bit bored with it.

Vast improvement on Steve Brine here in Winchester. When Chambers posts it's usually about stuff he's doing, either this or driving a truck to Ukraine. When Brine used to post he was snarky and rude then got in a strop and went off on one.

Would be up for reading some Thirty Years Wars discourse. Favourite bit me A level, that.
can we at least start litigating some different wars? somebody do some wars of the roses posting, that could tie up the timeline for at least two years, you can cross the streams with GoT posting and really deep fry some brain worms
I love how at least once a month we litigate WWII on this website
