"Many of them, he said, held legal status, but were unable to immediately produce their documentation to the agents.

“Some people left their property, their work permits in their lockers here,” [their boss] said. “I could bring it to them and get them released. But I don’t know where they are.”"
With all the excitement about the election I don’t want this story to get lost. This morning 8 car wash workers in Boston were kidnapped by federal agents in the largest workplace raid in the area in recent memory.

The details are horrifying.

As I've written, there are no major constituencies left in the GOP willing to go to the mat to fight racism. Trump beat them.

But there *are* some factions with real muscle that care quite a bit about antisemitism and Israel — so much so that they're willing to wage a full-blown civil war over them
Similar to the Nazi group chat semi-apology responses, I think it is remarkable that the “Groyper” war is being framed pretty exclusively in terms of antisemitism, while the racism is unremarkable for them.

There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

Korol is a US citizen. Her family hasn’t heard from her since she was taken, public charges haven’t been released—what crime did she even commit? 2nd-Degree Woodwinding?—and there has been no explanation for her “renditioning” across state lines.

We’ve moved into a new phase of Trump lawlessness.
A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

‘Taking us citizens out of state to detain them without charge is a new action from the Feds and should be opposed,’ her band said

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

Actually fired for truth. Identifying or attempting to identify the cause of violence is not the same as glorifying it or excusing it. Same goes for understanding that terrorist attacks can be inexcusable and unjustifiable and still have causes that can be understood.

That was a mistake. But instead of the lesson learned being “we need to plan for how to protect and properly compensate essential workers during a pandemic,” the lesson seems to be “we need to make sure no one does anything to prevent/mitigate the next pandemic.”

Pre-2020, informed by SARS 2003, there was a fair bit of planning devoted to the problem of how to ensure health care workers reported for duty when it might put them & their families at risk. Similar attention was not paid to education and food workers.

"The Nazis... imagined their targets would self-deport. Once the myth of self-deportation collapsed, they turned to more punitive measures. On Tuesday, Noem similarly noted the Everglades camp was meant to frighten immigrants into self-deporting. 'If you don’t,' she said, 'you may end up here.'"
Opinion | Don’t call it ‘Alligator Alcatraz.’ Call it a concentration camp.
This facility’s purpose fits the classic model, and its existence points to serious dangers ahead for the country.
