TIL that the 1Password cli can be completely unusable during a cloud outage. I'd just assumed it'd be able to use data from the 1Password desktop app on the same machine even when offline but nope.

This sounds reasonable but is 100% wrong. Whether you or agree or disagree with a study is completely immaterial. What matters is whether the study was conducted properly and generates valid results. And it's impolitic to say but it's true: you have to have some level of expertise to judge that.
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

In the latest instance of xkcd.com/1279/ someone has inadvertently gifted me with a Walmart+ trial account. Of course I won't take it but I wish there was some way to let this person know what a bad idea that was.

How in the world did that get called as intentional grounding? It was obvious in realtime that the path of the ball changed after it was thrown and was probably tipped

Today I learned that going through preclearance in the US terminal of the Vancouver airport means that you are legally back in the US. Does that mean all the Tim Hortons in the US terminal are actually Canadian embassies?

Learned a lesson about @flox.dev today. The more stuff you have in a default environment the more likely it is that you’ll accidentally leave something out of a project environment because it’s already available. Won’t be obvious until someone else tries to use the project without your default env

We lost power while I’m out of town and none of the nodes in my raspberry pi k8s cluster came back up. Now I’m anxious to get back and figure out what happened

There are signs in the men’s rooms of the Vancouver convention center that say that the urinals use non-potable water not intended for consumption and I’m very concerned about the sequence of events that lead to those signs being installed

After seeing this recommendation I spent a little time this morning deploying an Uptime Kuma instance on fly.io with access to monitor my Tailscale network and send notifications with Pushover. Can confirm that it is indeed delightful.

I’m going to be in Vancouver next week, staying near the convention center. Any recommendations for good places to eat? I’m open to trying just about anything.

Ugh, yep this was enabled automatically for me. I have Windows 11 Pro. I bought the expensive version and they’re treating it like a free product that they have to aggressively monetize with data collection.
If you're using Windows 11, Microsoft is now surveilling you in a new way. This may already be turned on on your computer, and you would not be notified; it activates whenever they detect you are in a "game", which in my experience Microsoft often false-positives on

I don't put a lot of CTA's out but I'm asking for help on this one. Missouri has a couple tools to fight the republicans here trying to steal congressional seats from left wing voices in the state and permanently make it ruby red. But we need help.

Please donate or spread the word!

you cannot be disparaged by your own words... people cannot attack you with your own ideas

if ones words are repeated and they are viewed unfavorably that is not a reflection of the one who repeats

it is a reflection of the author

Kansas City (and Jackson County) had its single democratic rep stolen by the republican party state dictatorship yesterday and it hardly made the news. To turn our district red, republicans redistricted KC residents to share a representative with people who live 3 hours away.

Let me say what the President won't: Domestic violence is not okay. It's immoral, illegal and abusive, and no real man is okay would do it, approve of it, or minimize it.
Trump minimizes domestic abuse during a talk at the Museum of the Bible: "Things that take place in the home, they call crime ... If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say this was a crime, see?"

Not sure whose fault it is primarily that most people don't seem to know that the president is basically a manager whose job is to carry out the will of Congress, and not The Country's Boss
This “explicit” is a weird editorial choice. The constitution gives the president no power over this at all. It’s not ambiguous.
