Just after dark I spotted a hiker above treeline, below Columbia Point. This time of year that's not a great place to be and I was concerned enough to phone it in. Based on the hiker's lights during the descent it does appear they made it down safely.

A meteor streaks through the bucket of the big dipper. The tail is brilliant green. The leading half is a nice pink with terminal flash. The sky is dark and full of stars. The silhouette of the Rocky Mountain stretches up on the right horizon. There are bare branches of cottonwoods and aspen trees sticking up along the horizon left.

Orion rises. There's a beautiful standing wave cloud and some nice meteors. The mysterious red light over the mountains returns.

The strange red glow is back again. It's too far north to be over Medano Pass. I have no idea what this could be.
