The Cold Moon was a very cold sight here, temperature around 5°F as it crawled up Crestone Peak. The fresh snow is glistening most beautifully in the moonlight tonight. (1/2)

The storm two weeks ago dropped about 5". Combined that's more snow in two weeks than we get most years. I love it!

This side of the San Luis Valley is in a shadow. I think most of the snow hits the San Juans and drops out there.

We dropped to 0°F this morning, the lowest temperature this fall. My yearly low stands at -20°F, recorded January 21, 2025. The yearly high of 91.4°F was recorded August 21, 2025.

We had about 8" of snowfall in this storm. (1/2)

A Night in Chicago Maura Stanton Forced to fly lower by unexpected rains a thousand songbirds passing over the lake near McCormick Place slap lit windowpanes— and fall in yellow heaps across the lawn. In Muncie, Indiana, no one at dawn hears swelling choruses in the sycamores, and later, in Louisville, garage doors open but no birds put on a show whistling seebit, seebit, or whywhywhy and hunters in Tennessee, hearing only crows, stick in their earbuds for the morning lies. Alabama commuters glimpse no feathers brightening the woods in the grey weather. Down at the Texas border no cheerful zreee encourages the migrants sleeping in tents or wakes a child to point up with glee, and the palms in Mexico do not shake and sway with warblers in their fronds resting a day for the flight to Guatemala, the final swing of the songbird migration to their winter place where Monarch butterflies clap their wings calling for music in that silent space. I caught a fantastic #meteor from Crestone, Colorado USA November 27, 2025 9:17pm MST looking north.

A brilliant green meteor streaks upwards just left of center. There are many stars visible in the sky, which is a pale blue color due to the almost first quarter moon. The foreground is covered in snow, dotted with chamisa. There are bare branches of cottonwoods and aspens on the horizon. Further on the horizon are the snow-capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains. There are a few houses visible nearby, and distant lights of houses in Crestone nestled in the foothills.

Around the same time, looking east, there was a nice long standing wave / lenticularish cloud. Just above and center are Castor and Pollux with Jupiter.

A long standing wave cloud stretches over the snow-capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains. There are many stars above, as well as the bright orb of Jupter in Gemini next to Castor and Pollux. The foreground is snow-covered, interspersed with chamisa. The lights of Crestone are nestled in the foothills of the mountains. Orion's belt is upper right.

There is a moondog, rainbow prism, almost in the center. The nearly first quarter moon is just a yellow/white orb to the right. There are thin and patchy clouds above, thicker near the horizon.
