Cool colossal squid captured on film for the first time in the dark depths of the Southern Ocean!
A deep-sea expedition has recorded 30 previously unknown species from one of the planet’s most inaccessible regions, 700 meters into the depths of the Southern Ocean.
The astonishing array included a carnivorous “death-ball” sponge, unknown sea stars spanning multiple families, and new crustaceans.

Sometimes ecology is about being in nature and observing. On a Canadian lake, there’s only one way to do that: canoe.
It was exploring the edges of habitats & the edges of periods of the day that were so interesting.
I returned full of new research ideas and questions to be answered.
