Like many I am not satisfied with the current state of things. Not in my city, my country, the world.

It is easy to focus on the immediacy of this dissatisfaction, all the things that feel 'wrong'.

Worse, it is easy to allow that to define our reality, to focus only on pushback/1

Now I'm curious!
The pro shot version of Merrily We Roll Along with Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez hits theaters this weekend. I don't see any reviews, so maybe there's an embargo, in which case it would be completely inappropriate for me to say "Do not miss it."

Do pollsters ever ask if anyone personally WANTS to go to war?

Being able to see govts careening toward war isn't the same as agreeing there's a need for it. I wish the framing of these polls reflected that distinction...

The current situation puts extra pressure on us to show up for those in need. I'm glad to know someone rises to the moment...
Located in a century-old mansion in Harlem, Casa Cecilia provides queer and trans people 6 months of shelter and care. In the entrance are the words “travesti”, “puta”, “bendita” (transvestite, whore, blessed), terms of power for late trans and queer rights legend, Cecilia Gentili, who died in 2024.

You can't separate this from the Atlantic article claiming their are too many students with disabilities. It's a moral panic meant to push out young people with disabilities from access to resources and to reify ableist bigotry. It's exactly what they did to trans people.

The #DJTDailyfollies are little more than smoke & mirrors...

Too bad so many act as if there's real fire behind it
A terrific AFP fact check uses reverse image searches to expose how a White House video took scenes from Florida, Texas, South Carolina and Nebraska and lied that they showed "Chicago is in chaos."

Let's ride!

As I roll around town, I often catch glimpses of the ways public transit shaped the East Bay from the curving & parallel streets, to the hillside neighborhoods accessed by public stairways...

I can't help wondering what it'll be like if we reach for that again?

But I'm curious: what sold so well this weekend?
Due to some pub date changes & some other books selling out over the weekend, we've made a few changes to the catalog. Thought I'd present three of the art highlights in a thread.

Trump's approval ratings are tanking. He's flailing on the economy. Even Republicans in Congress are beginning to revolt against him. He's not all powerful.

A tyrant can exercise tyranny only insofar as the objects of his tyranny continue to allow it. Remember this.

Millions of Americans with student loan debt are hanging on the edge of a cliff — a debt default cliff.

And the Trump Administration is making it harder for them to hold on.

NEW: Judge Howell barred the Trump administration from continuing to make warrantless immigration arrests in DC unless there is probable cause to believe there is a risk of flight.

Major decision. In D.C., ICE/CBP can no longer arrest immigrants without a warrant unless they find individualized probable cause of a flight risk.
