I left the high school short film showcase feeling inspired. Horror, documentary, mockumentary, one-minute films, films based on a photo or a written prompt, comedy. The kids are making them and I love it all ❤️

On the anniversary of the fires, I spent some time in Amir's Garden, named for Amir Dialameh, an Iranian immigrant who lugged plants atop a ridge to rehabilitate a burn scar after a fire swept through Griffith Park in 1971.

It was a reminder that we're all tenders of this fire-prone landscape

It's remarkable, given our climate reality, that more neighborhoods were not lost one year ago. But truly engaging with that climate reality means we have to rethink the entire city at once

LA continues to protest against ICE in our city and beyond. About 150 people went to Placita Olvera yesterday to mourn Renee Nicole Good and Keith Porter of Northridge, who were both shot and killed by ICE agents roughly a week apart.

Good morning. I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to make a small gesture of kindness today. It's up to you to decide what that can be. The key is for you to act on the idea. With so much out of our control, we can choose how to be with each other today and every day.

For people who have not yet had ICE descend on their city, I think it’s hard to convey how all-encompassing their presence is. You constantly hear about the neighbors they’ve taken, get texts about where not to go that day, see signs from where people were taken, hear whistles from down your block.
ICE killed a member of our community today. ICE showed up at my kid’s daycare today. ICE is bragging about the number of families they’ve torn apart in a matter of days, and promising that their campaign of terror isn’t done.
