Oh wow. Lanes on I-10 narrowed suddenly, forcing ALL drivers to exit at a weigh station.

A makeshift checkpoint—digital sign read: “Have Passport Ready”

1 of like 12 ICE agents, all standing around—in full military gear—ordered me to open my window:

“You a U.S. citizen?”
“Uh yes” then let me go..

@chuckwendig.bsky.social I’m getting some powerful Randall Flagg vibes from this Eddie Naberius guy in The Staircase in the Woods…

I ordered a backup Pilot Vanishing Point since my current one is nearing 10 years old and looking a bit worn out. I guess I'm feeling a bit sentimental about that specific fountain pen..? What a workhorse, though. I haven't looked back at any of my other FPs ever since I switched to this one.

but dang, changing this theme to a monthly/yearly subscription (without a lifetime one-time purchase, which i'd gladly pay and have for every other platform) and then hijacking the existing plugin which worked for a few years and slipping this in, as a forced update... feels in poor taste.

wdyt?

I feel conflicted about supporting Khan Academy. It's incredibly useful to brush up on math skills, but I don't know if I want to give them money that will pay for AI bills rather than human salaries.

Soon after firing the Librarian of Congress, Trump has fired the nation’s top copyright official as well. Rep. Joe Morelle says Trump acted after the copyright official “refused to rubber-stamp Elon Musk’s efforts to mine troves of copyrighted works to train AI models.”

Fuck this. A company with a $79B market cap shouldn’t ask its customers for donations. That $1M goal is 0.00127% of UPS’s market cap. A fart in a storm.

American Airlines taking the opportunity during the flight to sell a credit card. This announcement is taking longer than pre flight instructions.

How bad are things for airlines right now?

This "trusted verifiers" system won't be abused at all! Nothing at all reminiscent of when Bluesky started and had "trusted community blocklists" which turned out to be run by awful wannabe cybercop bullies.

We’re introducing a new layer of verification on Bluesky — a user-friendly, easily recognizable blue check.

In addition to account verification issued by Bluesky, we're also introducing Trusted Verifiers. Select independent organizations can verify accounts directly.

The slippery slope is a logical fallacy, but in tech, it seems to be true through a trend towards enshittification. With Series-A funding comes a promise of a subscription service and now account verifications a la Twitter. I hope this public benefit company will continue to benefit the public.
