New here. Testing the waters. You may remember me as @hataroni elsewhere. I've also been on Mastodon for the past year.

Boring cishet 40-something white male in NYC. Disabled. Nerd. Still avoiding COVID. Penchant for puns. Bad at summarizing myself.

Been overwhelmed this year. Severe sleep deprivation issues making it impossible for what's left of my brain to keep up with my TL. Can't cope with the news right now, either. Looking into surgery, but it's taking months to get the pieces in place.

Commission for @wearshats.bsky.social's DnD character Verdant, and his fey familiar, Steph! Part of the description was "she likes to perch on him because he looks like a small tree" and I think that's adorable and hilarious.

@katiehonan.bsky.social My ballot arrived. It has questions I'm supposed to vote on. For the last month, all I've heard is which politicians are in favor or opposed, with maybe a bullet point about member deference. Where do I find out what practical effects they would really have?

This is amazing. TV news doing a report on the epidemic of long COVID, featuring a marathon runner who got a "mild" case and now struggles to walk. And she's wearing a @flomask.bsky.social !

Somehow managed to call my NY state assembly member and senator's offices about the proposed mask ban. Senator is opposed to it, which is great. But my assembly member is a co-sponsor. The office listened to me, which I appreciate, but I don't think they're going to change their minds.

As for myself: Doc wants me to try www.inspiresleep.com/en-us/ surgery which seems to be the last option on the table. Unfortunately, I'll need that in tandem with my CPAP, and that's going to confuse insurance and cause problems. Taking it step by step.

I still exist. Just been too severely sleep deprived to keep up with anything. In case anyone was wondering. But I do want to use what little platform I have to nudge something along...

I'm working on an article about why telling disabled patients to 'lodge a complaint' when we're mistreated in hospital is NOT a solution

Ironically I was just severely mistreated and may actually be forced to lodge a complaint

If you've complained & been ignored and want to comment... reach out!

RFK Jr was directly asked whether a woman having an incomplete miscarriage in a state with an abortion ban should receive emergency care.

His answer? “I don’t know”.

The only acceptable answer is “Yes”.

Women have already died from pregnancy complications going untreated due to abortion bans
RFK told Sen. Lankford that “every abortion is a tragedy” and said Trump told him he wanted to end later abortions and wanted him to look into the “safety” of mifepristone.
Sounds to me like hints Trump will push for a gestational ban and have FDA restrict the abortion pill

Good news: I went for a checkup. Receptionist, nurse, and doc were all masked. I even got a compliment on my @flomask.bsky.social @nickelpin.bsky.social decals!

Bad news: No one else was masked. There was a box of free masks in the lobby, but they were ineffective surgical masks.
