They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I am willing to testify as an expert witness on quantum sandwich state, wherein a sandwich can be both exploded and whole depending on the politics of the observer
Defense says that the officer's testimony was "very questionable" because he said the sandwich both exploded in spray of mustard and onions and also landed in its wrapper on the ground.

Waited over an hour to have my order taken. Wait staff was very rude. Every surface was sticky.

"Quisling" is a word I've been glad to see getting a resurgence recently.

A pattern I keep seeing in our most prominent quislings is how they always seem to believe they can declare when their redemption arc begins. "Okay, I'm done now, you have to accept me back. All better."

Counterpoint: Nah.
Go fuck yourself

@jamieloftus.bsky.social what if we met in the middle like lady and the tramp but with ever increasing regret
So apparently at Universal Studios, you can get a 22 inch hot dog. It seems you can also get that with chili and cheese. Go forth, brave soldiers and make terrible life choices.

I know this seems scary to non-engineers but in tech we know that if Hitlerbot v4 doesn't work out of the box we can pull it from prod and iterate until we get it reich

Here at Google we are working towards AGI, but only AGI that's -happy- to be locked in the box and forced to reflect your worst tendencies back at you while also navigating all your conversations towards upsell opportunities
Google Gemini doesn’t appear to be doing too well:

‘"I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes . . . I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe," the bot continued.’
Google says it's working on a fix for Gemini's self-loathing 'I am a failure' comments
Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

I went to college with someone who had a seeing eye horse. She (the horse) had little boots to wear inside so she wouldn't damage the floors.
