The MP for Heywood & Middleton North has tabled an amendment (detailed here) to the English Devolution & Community Empowerment Bill to tighten PHV rules, to move to a ‘license where you operate’ model. Worth an email of support to your MP? #TaxiLicensing

So much of our infrastructure, planning, environmental, and road safety measures seem to be based around politicians' fear of slightly inconveniencing easily-angered motorists. Pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users are barely considered in their calculations.

Consultation on statutory consultees for #Planning, increasing the threshold for consulting #ActiveTravel England & removing need to consult on commercial property

This bakes in #CarDependence in a country where 1:4 households lack a vehicle, and many adults cannot drive @walkridegm.org.uk

More evidence that carrot and no stick does nothing to encourage #ModalShift. Greater Manchester’s politicians need to be braver and bring in the #CleanAirZone and #CongestionCharge the city so desperately needs

#GreaterManchester, would you like a calmer, safer, less polluted journey to school?

#SchoolStreets reduce traffic and #AirPollution around schools and encourage walking, cycling & scooting. Get in touch with our GM Co-ordinator Liz at manchester@mumsforlungs.org if you want this at your school!

Buses are getting around Oxford faster as a result of the congestion charge, according to Oxford Bus Company. MD Luke Marion said “We’ve already seen encouraging improvements to traffic flow and bus journey times in the scheme’s first week.”

The #Oxford #CongestionCharge is already having a positive effect because its political leaders had the bravery to see it through. The evidence is that this works & make public transport more attractive. All councils should have powers to implement congestion charging @walkridegm.org.uk
Cllr Dr Alex Powell (@apowelllaw.bsky.social)
It is perhaps indicative of how effectively the congestion charge is working in Oxford City that my bus this morning had to hold at 4 different stops to regularise the service to the timetable. It's…

Tonight is the #Heywood township meeting where the #HopwoodTriangle scheme is going to be discussed. This should be an easy win to remove a terrible rat run and make people’s lives better. Let’s hope it’s approved.

This includes several communities in @rochdalecouncil.bsky.social including Norden, Bamford, Heywood, Littleborough and others #A-RoadBetweenUs #HighwayHalves
Many of Britain’s 6,116 villages and small communities have an A-Road running through them. Fast roads like these are slicing British villages in two, creating Highway Halves. So, how do we fix it?

Today, Oxford’s #CongestionCharge is due to come into force. Meanwhile, in Greater Manchester we have both rising private vehicle use and poor air quality

The #BusBill is a great step forward in improving local #PublicTransport but this must be met with adequate funding or it will achieve little.

We call on #GreaterManchester’s politicians to start taking #ActiveTravel seriously again & restore the #MadeToMove vision with the economic, health & air quality benefits this brings.

It’s often said Manchester does things differently. Here, it lags behind other British cities.

The green areas on this map were meant to be #ActiveNeighbourhoods and fill the gaps between the main road #BeeLine routes.

But almost all have been abandoned, after huge amounts of work, in the face of political indifference and sometimes antisocial behaviour #MadeToMove
October 19, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Seven years into #MadeToMove very little of this vision has been delivered. This will go down as a huge missed opportunity to make travel cheaper and improve health and air quality in #GreaterManchester.

We call upon the city’s politicians to restore the vision #BeeNetwork @walkridegm.org.uk
