We have ~14 cm of snow today and aside from the nice view I always wondered about the sound dampening quality that produces that unusual quiet in the city.

Less traffic of course, but turns out snow has frequency absorption approaching that of acoustic wall paneling.

It may be bad etiquette to point out to Signore Giovanni della Casa that he looks like a peanut, but I will do it anyways.
The proposition of Giovanni della Casa's Il Galateo, an influential 16th-century Italian etiquette guide, is simple but difficult to get right: politeness is the art of pleasing others. Read an English translation from 1774 here: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/galateo/

Oh wow, what a tone synthesis. There has to be some AM/FM envelope thing going on - cold-warm-soft-sharp-fuzzy-clean, all at once.
What I'm listening to today: "Sarah Belle Reid plays the Buchla Touché"

This is something really special—a hyper-rare 1978 synth that lets you fully reprogram it to act like something other than "a piano". Reid hacks it to make something… otherworldly, indescribable

In 2009, during the construction of a new luxury hotel in the city of Antakya (Turkey) ruins related to the city of Antioch were discovered, including the largest single-piece ancient mosaic ever found. Its so well founded that it retained its shape when the ground shifted due to massive earthquakes

An entire generation has plead with Microsoft for a way to stop Word from trying to 'help' with table formatting.
Probably my main issue with almost all consumer software is, added complexity for zero benefits that solve fake problems by introducing real problems.

With most psychedelic drugs, you never know what you're going to get. But this mysterious mushroom from China - without fail - causes users to hallucinate tiny people: crawling up walls, popping out from under furniture and marching under doors. www.bbc.com/future/artic...
'They saw them on their dishes when eating': The mushroom making people hallucinate dozens of tiny humans
Only recently described by science, the mysterious mushrooms are found in different parts of the world, but they give people the same exact visions.

Scientists have been puzzled by 'Dark Light' for a long time. It is measurable, behaves like normal light in some ways, but neither reflects nor splits in a prism.

Imagine being the person who has to carry the Nuclear Football around for this guy.

Merz is a lobby paper in human guise. He has no ideals, personality, and only limited agency. Everything he says or does is for The Line, so at most he's a political avatar for European finance. Don't expect anything else out of him.

2. recreate the white-hot primordial soup from which we all spawned
