I thought I'd do a little art vs artist with some of my favourite models I've painted this year.
There are a lot of wings there, lots of Thousand Sons, a couple of conversions, and the first two busts I've ever painted. If there's one thing it's been a good year for, it's painting models. 🙂

One thing I knew I wanted to do from the start of painting Beowulf for @fenrisgames.com is have water on the base. The poem takes place in a lot of wet places, so it seems fitting. It does mean I have to anxiously wait a day or two for it to dry now to see if it looks good. 😬

I have a dog bed under my painting desk. There's gentle snoring coming from it. 🥹

I bought myself some new brushes to try, these are Rosemary & Co's new synthetic brushes, and so far I'm impressed! What better first test than some teenie tiny eyeballs, and they came out really well!

I am too much of a disaster to paint today. Yesterday I chucked a pint of fresh orange juice all over my painting desk, narrowly missing my commission. Today I knocked a tub of cream out of the fridge and it painted the kitchen, and me. I'm so grumpy. 😂

I've been working on Beowulf's cloak tonight, trying to give it a rough wool texture. And to my friend who said don't paint him rainbow... The tiny details of the trim add the last two colours I needed. 😂🌈

Extremely early progress on Beowulf.
As he's a king, he should have a lot of colours and they should be bright, but I've decided to mute the green and blue because that feels better to me. Some of the silver will go bronze/gold too with glazing when I'm done.

Sorry Duncan, your paints are amazing but your bottles are shit, especially for washes. Tired of opening this with my teeth and not being able to get any out. And a bonus to transferring it, it fits nicely in the paint holder/scenery/egg cup. 😁

"Good enough" is an incredibly useful principle in our hobby. It helps calibrate our expectations of success. My #Ultramarines are for gaming not display. These reinforcements are good enough for the tabletop. So I'm calling them done & moving on to the next project.
