Worst Chief Justice ever. Handed the state over to a malicious, racist fool and his toadies with almost no checks.

I suppose we won't try him for his crimes, but his disbarment should be a national holiday.

Chief Justice John Roberts touted the independence of the federal judiciary as a “counter-majoritarian check” and urged Americans rattled by partisan politics to keep faith with the Constitution. https://cnn.it/3LsloyF

I don't recall seeing a "mainstream" publication display such relentless, overt dislike for, basically, anyone. (Not an invitation to suggest other examples; just an expression of how dramatic I find NYT's Mamdani-hatred.)
Zohran Mamdani loves his Astoria, Queens, neighborhood, and the feeling is mutual. But voters who live near Gracie Mansion, his new home when he comes Mayor in January, really wanted his opponent to win.
As Mamdani Leaves Queens for the Upper East Side, a Cool Welcome Awaits

One of the great pleasures of cryptic crosswords is that sometimes a clue requires you to rethink your assumptions about how the clue works in order to solve it. A noun should be a verb; a city is a last name. Question your priors!

This story neglects to mention the time guitarist Yasmin Williams kept her commitment to perform and Grenell *organized a claque to heckle her performance*.

Perform at the Kennedy Center! If you cancel, we'll sue! If you perform, we'll heckle!
Kennedy Center vows to sue musician who canceled performance over Trump name change
The Kennedy Center is planning legal action after jazz musician Chuck Redd canceled an annual holiday concert. Redd pulled out after President Trump's name appeared on the building.

Guess it's time to revise this thread!

Also "some on campus see [Trump] as autocratic" in an article about government extortion with no due process (as found by a federal judge) is truly world-historical credulity.

Worried about political violence in the US?

I am, too.

I pulled together a few thoughts about violence, anger, and the need for a clear liberal cause.
On Political Violence
Liberals must preach non-violence. But we also need to clarify our cause and channel the anger so many of us feel.

This is hard to believe, but it's correct.
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Hard to imagine a more unequivocally successful policy, esp. showing such swift effects.
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

Every text message from Democrats asking for money makes me like the Democratic Party less than I do already.

And my baseline feeling is fury at the Democratic Party.

But, please, text me again! I love getting at least four new texts a day!

Repeal the 2nd Amendment. Pass sane gun control policies. Like every other civilized country on the planet.
BREAKING: The Trump administration is suing D.C. over its ban on semi-automatic (AR-15) weapons.

DOJ's Civil Rights Division under Harmeet Dhillon is seeking a court ruling that D.C.'s law "prohibiting registration of the AR-15 by law-abiding citizens violates the Second Amendment."

Well put.

I was an intermediate camper at Interlochen right around this time. It was a special place. I learned so much about theater and music.

This news is so appalling.
I don't think people realize how big a deal Interlochen is in the classical music world for kids. Premier place in the country to spend the summer if you are a band kid. For $25k Epstein was allowed to use it to recruit victims. This scandal touches so many parts of society.
“In that same court document, it is revealed that Epstein took the then 14-year-old to Mar-a-Lago in 1994, where she was introduced to Donald Trump. According to the files, Epstein elbowed Trump playfully asking him, "This is a good one, right?" with Trump smiling and nodding in agreement.”

Hmmm.

Oh, I know!

This is straight-up authoritarian media capture. Allies of the regime purchase major media corporations and install new leadership. Media organization ceases to report critically on the regime.

It's that simple.

This is happening now. (Along with over 100 murders in the Caribbean and Pacific.)
December 22, 2025 at 2:24 AM
Please, lawyers, I beg you: stop pretending this is in the same galaxy as law. This is murder and other acts of war. It's that simple. Stop explaining. There's nothing to explain! Murder, murder, murder. Over 100 murders!
Even absent an order to “kill everybody,” @sranderson.bsky.social and @nkorpett.bsky.social write that the Trump administration’s actions in the southern Caribbean and eastern Pacific—like its broader military campaign—raise serious legal concerns that demand further scrutiny.
