hey @mattgrayy.es @garybrannan.bsky.social (I think the only Tech Dif members on this site), could my friends and I use the ‘table-top time machine’ format? I’m studying history and would really love to be able to. it would only go on YouTube, not for making money or anything.

and also, even if it did, autism isn’t this big scary thing we need to reduce

it actually makes me really good at history (this is a joke)

hi @simonhynd.bsky.social I seem to remember something from the behind-the-scenes of s4e3 of #BBCGhosts where it was said that the supermarket scene (where Mike and Alison are video calling) was one of the first to be shot outside West Horsley Place? is my memory right here?

TV history mutuals and allied chums.

A thread.

As you know, the day job involves acquiring Cool Archive Stuff, and at the minute that involves a lot of 50s-70s British light entertainment, as that’s something I/where I work specialise in. It’s a rum old life.

I don’t care if babies cry on planes. Planes are unpleasant. I would also like to cry on planes. If a baby cries on a plane, that is not a nuisance. That is simply a relatable baby.

Cressida Cowell is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III’s translator
I love when a book has an intro from the author being like “this is a manuscript I found and translated” or “this diary was in my relative’s attic”, pretending they didn’t write the thing. Favourite examples? I’m reading The Name Of The Rose now. His Bloody Project springs to mind as well.

ME: *writing in my journal with the sole aim of pissing off future historians and archaeologists* I returned to my home - which is built in the usual style - by the normal way, and prepared and ate dinner in the way I often but not always do

amazing topics. seeing the Château de Chenonceau garden, designed by Catherine de Medici (and every other part of the château), when I was fourteen was an experience that helped cement my love of history.
Series 9 of BBC You're Dead To Me: Great comedians, great historians, and episodes about...

- ARISTOTLE!
- ARTS AND CRAFTS MOVEMENT!
- CATHERINE DE MEDICI!
- THE CAUSES OF THE BRITISH CIVIL WAR
- KING ARTHUR!
- SOJOURNER TRUTH!
- HERNAN CORTES & MALINTZIN!
- SOME OTHER STUFF I'VE FORGOTTEN

Hi @gregjenner.bsky.social, are saints celebrities in medieval times? Fascination in their personal lives via hagiographies, money being made off them from medallions etc. Arguably even recognisable to strangers eg St Sebastian always being represented with his arrows and therefore recognisably him.

Totally. Unlike that universally recognised fable about the rise of Macrinus which is currently doing tens of millions at the box office.
