two years into the Israeli mass-extermination campaign and the Berlin Police see fit to spontaneously ban any expressions of sympathy for Gazans. nie wieder Deutschland, aber diesmal im Ernst.

alarmed (but entirely unsurprised)
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

"especially American ones, with whom the Belarusian émigré is fighting his own personal cold war" is an absolutely insane qualifier for a link to an NLR piece that has nothing to do with any of this
Billionaire-owned “philosopher” Benjamin Bratton finally coming out as full technofash in this declaration of alliance with JD Vance & a16z — here’s his scathing rejection of those who “stand in the way” of corporate AI agendas nobody wants. www.noemamag.com/is-european-...

If Europe wants to build a new AI Stack it should stop listening to critics who claim to lead the way but only offer resistance.

worth being critical about what the point of Western recognition of Palestine even is amidst a Western-backed genocide of Palestinians, but it is extremely funny that FDP zombies are even worse than the AfD on this count 🤡

And the countries that pride themselves in being apparent democracies have abandoned their own citizens, including elected representatives, to the whims of a government currently committing an internationally-recognised genocide

case in point, if there's one thing this dumb fucking website is good at its papering over far-right rhetoric with toxic wholesomeness
This is the response to someone asking if Jesse Singal has been banned from BlueSkty yet.

SIngal is, ofc, a dangerous hate-monger whose mission in life is the destruction of trans people, the same trans people who carried this app, especially in its early days.

this also feels inevitable in Europe — years of real-estate speculation + creating infinite short-term lets for bottom-feeders doing professional shitcoin speculation have created the perfect storm that the far-right are very well-equipped to capitalise on
So yes it appears that Trump’s housing policy is mass deportation.
Fed Gov Stephen Miran: "If you close that border and you have negative net migration - & there's been reports thus far that 1.5 million migrants have left the US just in the first half of the year -- that's gonna have a very disinflationary effect. And so I'm expecting quite a lot of disinflation."

It was really engaging to think about imperialism with Costas Lapavitsas and Claude Serfati at Historical Materialism this summer - with a lively French audience! Promising that so many young people are interested in Marxism and (anti-)imperialism. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLwW...

the closest thing to a peep out of bluesky was doubling down on suspending the accounts of people being shot at, bombed, and starved to death by israel. bluesky's efforts to deny palestinians access to aid will be studied in the future

political violence is bad, unless you can do it with a keyboard
FYI multiple members of the Bluesky community have been shot without anyone at the company making a single peep about it

I fucking hate Bluesky, anytime anything *happens* the platform-mandated wholesomeness algorithm kicks in and you get endless cat videos and other twee garbage forced down your throat

I mean it has been abundantly clear for a while now that Bluesky is a whiter, more middle-class version of Linkedin
NEW: Bluesky is becoming place to discuss scientific research - it gets more proper engagement & attention, new study finds.

For all the talk of decline - borne out by several metrics - the science community seems to have adopted Bluesky more than others.

Science research gets more engagement on Bluesky than X, study finds
Bluesky posts referencing scholarly articles ‘find substantially higher levels of interaction’ than on Elon Musk’s platform

everything also makes more sense once you realise that he genuinely believes this stuff and isn't just a terrible political operator
If you just work under the assumption that Starmer always chooses the far right over marginalised groups, nothing he does would surprise you

A reminder that the Israeli government does not allow any international journalist into Gaza. That’s how they have killed more journalists than most conflicts combined since WWII while claiming that all the journalists they’ve killed were actually enemy combatants.

when even the most craven liberals in the rest of the western world have started scrambling to pretend they opposed Israel's genocide all along, Germany remains steadfast and true to its proud tradition of appreciating a genocide whenever it sees one. this country is going to need another Nuremberg.

they should send the little prick on a flag comparison tour across the Balkans
Now, you may have noticed that Israeli officials usually don't make that comparison.

They usually compare pro-Palestine solidarity to the Nazis. So why did Yair Netanyahu bring up the USSR flag instead? I think it's because he was in Hungary around fascists and he couldn't make the Nazi comparison
