For the record, as a somewhat public individual, I would be rather less concerned with someone on social media saying "John Scalzi should meet a wood chipper" than, say, "I wonder how quickly John Scalzi's house would burn." The former is hyperbole, pretty clearly; the second feels like a threat.

One time I genuinely heard someone say that people were less homophobic in the 2000s and I was like "we had to invent an entire separate word to describe straight men who gave a shit about their appearance to let people know they weren't gay." Not to mention all the, you know, actual hate crimes.

Does anyone know if the cashapp/venmo scam ppl are here too?? Specifically talking about the Twitter phenomenon where accounts would pop up in the comments of a post with $$ handles and spoof the OP super convincingly. You'd end up sending $$ to a completely diff person w nearly identical handle

Kids today may not know that insurance companies used to be able to deny care simply over a family history of illnesses like cancer or bc of issues that were fixed at birth and never a problem since
My personal worst story is the Reno VA refusing to test me for COVID in 2022 despite having 14/10 symptoms bc I'd been vaccinated, but that shit happens ALL the time under plans that people pay money for & for more immediately urgent shit
