When updating profiles on online shared family trees such as on FamilySearch & @wikitree.bsky.social, please make sure you aren't mixing up people. Most names aren't actually unique. I just spent 30 min. reverting changes made to my 5th great-grandfather's profile on FamilySearch. Sigh. #genealogy

I was talking to someone recently about how many of my ancestors were craftspeople, and the ways I carry on that tradition.

They were:

Photographer/portrait painter
Tinsmiths
Painter
Cooper
Shoemaker
Gardener
Garment workers
Nail-maker

What did your ancestors make? What do you make? #genealogy

Today’s #GenealogyStories (inspired by quoted post), is “medal”:
🎖️Ancestors that earned medals, from military to sports or Brownie badges
🎖️A time when you “deserved a medal” for your research
🎖️An ancestor who seemingly was “unremarkable” but who you feel is medal worthy

2 sets of books resolved the "Bermuda Triangle" in my family and general British history and triggered sources which are from or about over 20 different countries in the world since 1700. Any unespected sources that broke your walls?

Bought my first Estonian lit as ancestor von Maydell is a composite character in book 2&3. In a set of DNA matches, he is the only common possibility in the Venn. The book is written premises that Estonian nobility was native but other sources indicate that he married a von Wrangel.

@christinekooi.bsky.social It also means you descend from the brother of Hendrickje Stoffels, the mistress, model, and business partner of the painter Rembrandt van Rijn. I found out where her parental house was in Bredevoort.

Historical fiction books by Thea Beckman, a Dutch author, sparked my interest in history. One of her books mentioned Eleanor of Aquitaine during the crusades, in a minor role. She fascinated me. 40 years later, I am now just one generation removed from proving my descent from her.
