“European cities, like Paris, were smart to focus on air pollution rather than climate change. Air pollution is more real for people. You can see it, smell it. People liked what @annehidalgo.bsky.social did.” — My comments on leadership & urban transformation

To be clear, cities should do both.
Bikes, pedestrians and the 15-minute city: How the pandemic is propelling urban revolutions
In Europe, cycling caught on in a big way this year as COVID-19 discouraged cars and crowded public transit. Some cities’ leaders hope to make the habit permanent and make congestion a thing of the pa...

Trigger warning.

“In crashes, SUVs are more likely to strike vital organs in the core of adults’ bodies & heads of children. Hitting pedestrians above their center of gravity means they’re more likely to be knocked forward & down and then be driven over.”

Plus more likely to hit in the 1st place.

Cars are to cities what cigarettes were to restaurants.

Many thought they had to coexist but once we finally removed them we wondered, why did we take so long to do this? The pros did outweigh the cons.

Today is the last day to comment on the Endangered Species Act rule change. The proposed rule eliminates the definition of harm. With the change, human actions would only be prohibited if they directly hurt or kill actual animals. Habitat loss will not be a factor & more species will go extinct.

We build aggressive vehicles
We market them recklessly
We celebrate dangerous driving
We design violent streets
We prioritize the driver at all costs
We shame and blame everyone else

Road violence is no accident it’s a direct result of our choices.

Balloons don't go to heaven. They fall back to Earth and many birds and wildlife become entangled resulting in death. There are many other ways to celebrate life that aren't harmful to the environment and wildlife!

So many friends look at my cargo bike lifestyle as a hero or huge task. Honestly, it’s a cheat code.

If it’s safe to bike, it’s typically easier than driving when you have kids. Seriously!

Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-tobacco playbook could help turn the US public against their beloved oversized cars.

Then it’s off to help the street dogs.

We can’t change all the bad news and gloom in the world but we can do a little bit in our small corner. 💜🙏

Imagine coming home from school or work, and loudest sound was the sound of birds, getting ready to roost for the night.

Stel je voor dat je thuiskomt van school of werk, en het luidste geluid was het geluid van vogels die zich klaarmaakten om te slapen voor de nacht.
