Living here on this absolute jewel of a planet. Thank you First Nations. PhD in sustainability, equity & health. Former policy adviser ALP & Greens. Banned from Greens 20 yrs ago by silly rule they’ve now gotten rid of, but still waiting for apology! …🙄

What lies beneath … the jewelled sea in my profile picture suffered a marine heatwave this year, there was an algal outbreak and most of the sea life died.

Four years ago bushfires burned through nearly half the island, now this.

We must change our way of life, no matter how hard it is to accept

I am calling once again for Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) to be taken out of emissions reduction reporting.

Including LULUCF in reports is misleading, particularly in Australia

This is great news, hope the Aust govt is paying attention
The NSW Net Zero Commission recently advised the NSW Government that export emissions and local climate harms must be considered in proposed coal expansions.

The science and the law is clear - business as usual is no longer an option.

Won’t stop can’t stop being annoyed by #BoM new website - it’s not just that it‘s been dumbed down but even minor details like the pretentious name ‘The Bureau’ - what are they, the CIA or something

The weird thing about car culture in Naarm/Melbourne is that I live without a car here, and people who know me, who know how I live, tell me that it can’t be done
(I think they mean it can only be done by people like you who are foolhardy - normal people won’t do it.)

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

The economic case for methane action is clear.

- Global methane abatement yields large net global economic benefits.
- The benefit-cost ratio of methane action is at least 3—rising to more than 6 when health cobenefits are included.

Reading Bill #Gates memo, what struck me most was the lack of any feeling for the natural world. He is a ‘good’ patriarch, a ‘good’ imperialist, who wants to ‘help’ poor people and show them how to do things better through technology. But there is no sense of the wonder of the world.

Anyone else had trouble interpreting information on the latest, very expensive, Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) website?
If you haven’t already had an look, take a few minutes to be totally bewildered 🤪
The only logical explanation possible, for this ineptitude, is that they want to privatise the BOM

It’s not a cock-up. It’s a deliberate strategy to get you to pay (something between $174 and $4037 pa, plus a $1699 start-up charge) for things that they used to provide to everybody regardless of capacity to pay.

Hence "Subscribe to become a registered user of our real-time data products".
The BOM have destroyed their website - no current observations by weather station available anymore for example. Royal Commission now. I want people sacked.

I think I may have worked out why I can’t access the observation data on the #BoM website - it looks like they now want you to pay for it. As a #Climate researcher I am really shocked if this is correct, but that’s what it looks like

Ok another #AI weird claim for those interested - I was just searching for ‘cities on 38S’ (ie latitude 38 South) and Google AI told me Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand is one.
Dunedin is 46S - entire South Island of Aotearoa/NZ is further south than 38! How could it possibly get that?
