La Sevillana, almost constantly blooming even on the shady side of the garden. It’s underplanted with campanula and each year I sigh with pleasure at the colour combination❤️

The last of Madame Isaac Pereire for this year. The heavenly perfume fills the garden with deliciousness.

I just stood next to Britain’s joint-smallest bird, a goldcrest. Tiny and perfect, it piped its tune at me from the hedge. Up to a quarter of these tiny birds won’t make it through a harsh winter so I’m rooting for this one on what will be such a bitterly cold night.

A 15 year old boy with autism went missing earlier this week

He was selling fruit with his family in Springbranch when he disappeared

They filed a missing person’s report & begged the public to help find him

Turns out he was in a Houston ICE detention facility

They kidnapped a disabled child!

As a lifelong birder, and one who travelled a fair bit over the years, I think I expected that, one day, I would see a Slender-billed Curlew. There was even the brief excitement of a bird in Suffolk that was reported as one, and which I saw - fleetingly.

But no. I never saw one.
Today (date), the Slender-billed Curlew was declared extinct. The first bird extinction on mainland Europe in 500 years — on our watch. Extinction is final. No going back. Think about that.
