BIG ANNOUNCEMENT📣: I haven’t been this excited to be part of something new in 15 years… Thrilled to reveal the passion project I’ve been working on for the past year and a half!🙀🥳 (thread 👇)

So excited about our recent 📜in @natcomms.nature.com

In short, we found 3 lncRNAs that ensure oocyte differentiation by condensing FBF-2, a protein that prevents meiosis entry. And yes, a homologous mechanism probably exists in mammals.

Three lncRNAs promote PUM protein condensation and germline differentiation - Nature Communications
RNA-binding FBF proteins control germline stem cell differentiation. Here, the authors show that three long non-coding RNAs bind, condense, and thus inhibit FBFs to promote the transition of germline stem cells into meiosis.

One of the best collaborations we ever had.
Brainstorming with ‪@ethanewe.bsky.social‬ whenever a new result came up, was so uplifting and we felt like we boldly go where no one has gone before.
Top tier research institutions: grab him while you can!
In summary, we think that low oxygen levels signal reproductive permissive environments and promote germline maintenance. This neurons-to-germline communication may be super important for enabling animals to sense, adapt, and propagate in fluctuating environments. 🔥🍂🍎🪱

WOoo! Hot pre-print alert! 🔥 Check out our new story - We describe evidence that "neuronal oversight" of germline small RNAs prevents sterility and allows lab-domesticated C. elegans to reproduce when temperatures go up (1/2)

‪So proud we could take part in this amazing project!
Germline/meiosis crowd, you must check this out. A whole new dimension of non-cell autonomous control on gametogenesis.
Also, triple shoutout for @ethanewe.bsky.social . A great PI on the way

After 10 years of work, a complete telomere-to-telomere gap-free genome for C. elegans finally exists: it has 106 Mb rather than the textbook 100.3 Mb, and up to 366 additional genes.

We go to so many meetings and conferences that most just blend into our memory.
But rare ones stand out and truly change the way we think and do science.
👇This was one of those that will stay a part of me.
🥂This was the highlight of my year. The "instigators", led by local master of the ceremony @svobodalab.bsky.social will never forget the privilege of organizing it and i think every participant will treasure the experience forever ❤️ @nature.com @josiegz.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Scientific bedlam at the world’s weirdest and wildest research conference
Woodstock Bio2 + Night Science aimed to encourage collaborations through creativity. The walk-on music for presentations was fun, too.

In this conference we couldn't care less where you published your story because 1. we only care if it's interesting and good and 2. participants will discuss unpublished work
Who does that? We rented a train JUST for the conference, that will take the participants from Prague to the woods of Bohemia. There'll be talks ON THE TRAIN. In Prague we'll have 5 locations with different atmospheres.
