Dysentery and the role it plays in starting the Wars of the Roses - the Black Prince and Henry V - alone makes for quite a chain of thought! Even though it was a common disease on campaign AFAIK, it maybe jars in the modern mind with the image of how a warrior prince "should" go?

On the other end of the spectrum, Marshal Oudinot was shot 12 times, took 5 sabre wounds in one night, seems to have been hit multiple times by cannon-fire, broke a leg falling from his horse...

... and died of natural causes at the age of 80

The greatest film never made is the absurd life of Ptolemy the Thunderbolt - in less than decade, exiled son of one king, kills the son of another king (maybe), joins the court of a third king, murders that king, becomes a king himself, then Gauls invade, and he falls off his elephant and is killed.

Chinggis Khan dies from complications from falling off a horse! This is the problem with going 'arf arf, what is Aragorn's tax policy'....real life is often either a) dramatically unsatisfying or b) so dramatically neat as to feel contrived.
that's what makes medieval history so wild that so many stories of powerful rulers end with "and then on campaign he got the chills and died"

or in the case of vlad vi of wallachia "after a couple of large ones got on his horse and rode into the dâmbovița river"

Impressed that all these folks got MRIs. It took me five years to convince my providers that an X-ray was in order. By then, it was too late, and I had my right shoulder replaced at age 49. Why intervene early when you can always bolt some titanium onto someone...
