A couple of hours into Avowed, I realized I needed a break from Open World games. But now I'm back to it. First thought:
Why did they even bother with a stealth mechanic? I can spend 5 more minutes per fight to have to kill one fewer dude, or I can just fight all the dudes and have time for my kids.

Years after consigning it to the ravages of tsundoku, I've sufficiently caught up on reading to pull "Paperbacks from Hell" -- Grady Hendrix's love note to mid-20th century pulp horror paperbacks -- off the shelf. The intro alone knocked me back, this might be as much fun as "A Passion for Passion."

Every one of this generation of robocalls begins with a vaguely annoyed-sounding synthetic female voice saying, "Hello?!" moments before the 'busy office' background track starts. It's uncanny. If I were being tormented by literal demons who only had a VoIP line, it would probably go like this.
