The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isn’t technological. It’s just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.

In case you’re wondering, it’s barely fall & our children’s hospital is already almost always full with kids boarding in the ER.
And the pediatric workforce is stretched thin.
Our system does not have the capacity to care for the influx of vaccine preventable diseases that is coming.

I like the analogy of digital asbestos. Treated like a miracle product now, but it's going to be a huge pain to remove all the embedded AI slop in the future.
And if/when the genAI bubble bursts and society reacts to the damage it’s causing, there’s a good chance that your AI dependence will leave you at a disadvantage against not just older workers who did the work on their own, but younger students as well.

This should be the lead story in all major national news outlets. Public health people prefer to stay out of the limelight unless there is no other choice. I can’t overstate how bad things have to be for 9 former CDC directors to band together and pen an op-ed in the NYT warning the entire country.

We do not invite the fae into the house and that now includes generative AI. We do not give them our full names and we do not, under any circumstances, make any sort of deal with them.
Humanity has had folktales about the enchanting others for as long as we’ve existed, across cultures and times. We do understand that we have dangerously vulnerable “Persuade” & “Compel” buttons that don’t have much armor or protection. Chatbots are this generation’s iteration of charming treachery.
