Petit guide à l’usage de la gauche qui serait tenté par l’IA.

Un thread 🧵.

(TL;DR : c’est non)
This is what AI is all about. Authoritarianism without liability.
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Remember, kids: A real big goal of "AI" is to entirely sever capital from labor, and no, there will be no universal basic income, you can all just starve and die, thanks

AI is already taking jobs away from entry-level workers
Software and customer service are most at risk right now and could be the canary in the coal mine.

"AI" allows you to roleplay competence.

I think the Vibecoding reddit has accidentally stumbled on the best description of vibecoding:

It's "roleplay for guys [it is always guys] who want to feel like hackers without doing the hard part".

An incredibly important bit by @dexdigi.bsky.social on the @404media.co hang out:

With this amount of time and money, IA should have already cured cancer and figured out time travel.

Turns out it still fails at basic math and getting data without introducing random errors

It’s never too late to face evidence: it sucks. And forever will.
The AI infrastructure build-out is so gigantic that in the past 6 months, it contributed more to the growth of the U.S. economy than /all of consumer spending/

The 'magnificent 7' spent more than $100 billion on data centers and the like in the past three months *alone*

"Amiante numérique". C’est tellement parfait.
Someone on here compared AI produced material as "digital asbestos " which in a few decades' time we will have to work out how to eradicate from the fabric of research.
From my own academic research, even pre LLMs there was a huge danger of zombie factoids that begin in a respectable publication by mistake and then get reprinted for decades because no one is backtracing to the original source. Once bad info gets into the system it can take years to clear it out.

This is easy to spot useful AI, because useful AI:
a) isn’t called AI
b) isn’t talked about at all

(Background remover, grammar check or the bazillion research project nobody has ever heard of except from a few scientist from that field)

So yeah, "AI abolitionism" is actually the correct approach
I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.
