It’s been 8 years since I published my parenting memoir. I wonder how different the book may have been had I known I was an undiagnosed Autistic woman?

“Autism doesn’t destroy families. It’s the ableism that does,” said Tyla Grant, who was diagnosed with autism at 17. She called Mr. Kennedy’s comments “fear-mongering” and said his “rhetoric flattens our existence into this outdated stereotype.” Gift link (TY EPB):

Autism is not a "competition of suffering. This is not a zero-sum game. Autism is not a hierarchy—it’s not 'my autism is harder' versus 'your autism isn’t real.' Everyone’s needs are valid. Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and supported." From Karen Krejcha:

With Autism Acceptance Month coming up in April, now's a good time to read about why most autistic people don't like seeing puzzle pieces used in relation to autism.

Not only is the term "profound autism" harmful & limiting, but the #ProfoundAutism lobby works with the ABA industry, which treats autistic distress and pain as "behaviors" to be eliminated—and that is DANGEROUS.

Instead, learn how to improve autistic lives:

Vaccines do not cause autism. You’ve almost certainly read that before — but often without a full explanation of how we know it to be true. Here's how we know.

The first person to be diagnosed as autistic passed away last year at 89 years old. Please remember this if you find yourself being hypercritical of “all these people being diagnosed as autistic now”. The first documented clinical autism diagnosis was made less than 100 years ago.

The morning after the 2016 election—and knowing what that meant for SCOTUS—I went to my now-late mother’s house and sobbed that everything I fought my entire life for was going to be erased.

She nodded and said, “And you are not alone.”

Autism, while listed in the DSM as a disorder, is better explained as a neurotype comprised of a constellation of traits that diverge from what is currently considered typical. The defining traits are not disordered by nature but pose challenges when attempting to meet expectations of peers.

Some of our community's students don't have the spoons (or "tokens") to deal with school as a social space: "I told his teacher there should continue to be zero pressure on Nick to connect socially in school. Nick uses school for academics only." At TPGA:
