In the second century BCE, Egypt cut off papyrus exports to keep Pergamum’s library from competing. It didn’t work. The scholars invented parchment instead.

Portfolio update : The Mirror of Pride
"She's been following me for several days; I only see her at dusk. She always stays about ten paces away. When I confront her, she claims to be my shadow. I then asked her if I was her light. She replied that I was confusing my pride with her patience."

Irritation is growing at news outlets that give you the choice of: 'refuse cookies and pay €1' or 'Accept' - but when you accept, don't let you read the article anyway. More and more are doing this. What a waste of time.

The 2026 Olympic games and, to a lesser extent, the 2026 FIFA World Cup may require relocating...
The State Department is proposing requiring applicants for business and tourist visas to post a bond of up to $15,000 to enter the United States, a move that may make the process unaffordable for many.

The weather dude on TV last night said it's going to be 99 degrees today. I'm demanding that he be fired and replace with another dude that will forecast a high of 82.

Am I doing this right?

I'd forgotten about this. It is time to remember.
The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

Every European needs to see this. Time is running out faster than could be imagined.

Oh for god’s sake.

Can’t we all just say fuck you Trump… and leave him to fester in his own pile of shit?

I’m sick of hearing this fucking retard spew bile non stop.

I know there’s decent people in the US, but I’m sorry. … fuck the lot of you and sort this shit out.

We’re done with you

There was never any reason that the UK couldn't have been No. 1 in Europe when the country was in.
When Laura K insists rejoining the EU wouldn't bring growth for the UK as EU countries on average don't grow much atm, it is (deliberately?) misleading.

The UK's economy can of course grow if trade with EU countries increases, no matter how well they are doing for themselves.

A reminder that Single Market / Customs Union WAS a version of Brexit as voted for by our ancestors in 2016.

As it was 'Brexit-compatible' I fail to see how it could now be a 'red line', even for Brexiteers who claim ascendancy of the will of the people?
