Come work with me at Northern Arizona University! We are hiring an Assistant Teaching Professor in Organic Chemistry. We have a friendly department, dedicated students, and a beautiful mountain town (yes it snows in Arizona). 🥽👩‍🔬🧪

Do I teach chemistry? Yes. Are we still doing March Mammal Madness for extra credit? HELL YES. I'm so excited for chemists to learn about something outside their comfort zone!

#WomenInScience day,
unfortunately this scissors pipeline shows that many women leave.

How can we support women? we need to appreciate their skills, knowledge, work & leadership style.

The excitement of our acceptance into the Chemistry Laboratory Curriculum Innovators Program to develop a new analytical chemistry lab is really hampered by the fact the program is NSF funded and might not exist soon.

In Environmental Chem today I asked students what chemical contaminant they were the most worried about, we eventually got talking about environmental legislation.

I told them we were pulling out of the Climate Accords and the WHO.

A student yelled "WHAT" and that about sums up how I feel. 🧪🥽

Our global study on the state of trust in scientists is now out in Nature Human Behaviour! 🥳

With a team of 241 researchers, we surveyed 71,922 people in 68 countries, providing the largest dataset on trust in scientists post-pandemic 👇🧵https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-024-02090-5

TikTok was a place for people to learn and connect, not just watch cat videos. As someone who had a community in TT I can tell you that the people on there care about democracy, they are LIVID about so many social issues and don’t just care about losing the app. It is so much more than that.

I am extremely excited to announce that for the first time ever, Skype a Scientist is offering mini-grants to support IRL science communication!!

Communicating science out in our communities is critical. We want to enable others to get their projects off the ground!

Nine months after submitting the manuscript I got the verdict of revise and resubmit. Maybe I can get this paper actually published before I retire.

This week in lab we are doing metallic and ionic structures. I love relating periodic properties to the rocks I was obsessed with as a kid.

Below is the lattice model they built of fluorite compared to the actual fluorite!
