New article just dropped! I've been working with two colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine (a professor of molecular pathology and a mathematician/geneticist) to assess the potential threat from new biotech/genetics developments.

It's available for free here: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Large-Scale Nightmare or Precision Tool for Covert Operations? An Assessment of the Risks of Genetic Technology in the Near Future
Advances in genetic technology could lead to new threats, such as engineered pathogens, or plots to frame individuals by planting synthesized deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) at a crime scene. Uncontrol...

The wind out here where I live is by far the worst I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. In this open landscape, the inland wind picks up speed and hits our house with full force. It just goes on howling for days and weeks on end. At least we finally bought a pair of goggles.

A thought just occurred to me: when a dog pees in a public place where other dogs are likely to pass, is that the dog equivalent of posting on social media?

There was a time before PowerPoint where US military slides could just be straight up impressionism (which is commendable of course).

Visiting my old friend the game collector this evening. He's making me play bizarre Japanese games like this truck "racing" game. I just played the first race, the only thing I could do was switch lanes. It looked about as exciting as watching trucks on a regular freeway.

My son has spent many months getting all the equipment necessary to set up 5.1 surround sound in his room, the first movie we watched to inaugurate his new setup was the remastered version of Battle of Britain (1969). It was magnificent. One of my childhood favorites, my first rewatch in decades.

Swedish public radio has received confirmation from the Swedish military that the 'exercise' in Greenland was indeed an operation intended to deter the USA.
Danish soldiers are issued with live ammunition and since last week a 'meaningful' number have been deployed.

I'm going to be honest here, when I send a detailed budget I've drawn up myself (including all the stuff that goes into calculating salary costs, overhead costs, etc) to our finance guy and he says everything looks fine, that does make me feel pretty satisfied.

My cat will be 15 years old in a few months. Jumping is starting to become difficult for her, as expected. But we still want to keep the gate at the stairs, to keep the dog from rampaging freely upstairs and ensure that the cat has a quiet zone without the dog disturbing her. So I cut a hole in it.

The world is pretty terrible right now, but also I found these gorgeous Italian handmade umbrellas available from the website of their family-run company, so now I have something to distract myself with.

I once had to explain to an American officer on Twitter that America likes headlines & therefore America has a certain view of it's military but France does things differently.
French special forces (GCM) deployed to Greenland earlier this month to begin training in the Kangerlussuaq, located at the end of the 190 km long Kangerlussuaq Fjord (Søndre Strømfjord) in Central-western Greenland.

My grandfather was a tough man. A farmer, he worked hard every day of his life. When he got old, he had a lot of pain, his back and joints in particular. My mother and her siblings bought him a new, comfy chair. Then they found him watching TV sitting on a wooden stool, in the new chair: the cat.

This looks almost exactly like one of my plastic GI Joe vehicles I had as a kid. My mother was not pleased when she saw that I had dug up all her strawberry plants to build an intricate system of trenches for the GI Joe troops and underground garages for the vehicle.
