Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Speaking of Putin's palaces, Navalny's team proved beyond doubt that Putin has a new one in annexed Crimea.

Corrupt ex-Ukraine president Yanukovych planned a dacha there, but Putin stole the land & massively upped the project right down to the gold taps!

I must admit I had to think twice for the title of the book I am reading right now...
We aren't all lying, at least not all the time...
Very funny polling result where ~3/4 of people will say they read a book last year but if you ask them to name the book the share drops 20 points

Unlike the previous case in August, which I caught in peer review, this latest one is in an already-published volume.

And when I googled the 'article' to see what came up, I received an 'AI Overview' of 'Key themes likely covered in this article.'

Where are we going with this?
Sigh. Just came across another case of an AI-generated hallucinated reference to an interesting yet completely fictitious article I supposedly wrote. (Ulrichsen, K. C. (2018). Qatar and the Gulf crisis: Negotiating unity, resilience, and security. International Affairs, 94(5).)

One Russian independent media outlet spoke with 14 residents in Valdai, where supposedly almost 100 drones tried to attack Putin's palace.

None heard anything, nor had any text alerts about drone danger.

The irony here being this has nothing to do with Ukraine.

The Oreshnik missiles are too close to hit Kyiv - there is a minimum flight time/distance needed. They can however hit anywhere in Europe.

While Trump cuddles up to Putin, the rest of the sane world shakes its head and watches the growing danger.

China, emboldened knowing Agent Orange is too afraid to protect Taiwan.

And Russian Oreshnik missiles today on 'combat duty' in Belarus.

Good morning to readers; Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.

This New Year’s Eve, Ukrainians are reclaiming Malanka and Vasyl.

The tradition lives on through street performances, with a goat that dies with the old year and revives with the new, played in the Kyiv metro by Laima.

I’m sure those laws against infidelity would be enforced equally along gender, racial, and class lines. Nope, definitely wouldn’t lead to increased criminalization of already oppressed people.

Not sure people are getting the real importance of the Russians fooling Trump about the Ukrainians attacking Putin's house. It was to demonstrate just how much they control his thinking--how much he is in their pocket. And it worked.

For the past several years, Matthew Boedy has been working on a book about the Christian nationalist aims of the conservative powerhouse group Turning Point USA and its late founder, Charlie Kirk.

Three weeks before its publication date, Kirk was assassinated.
His book on Charlie Kirk was about to come out. Then his subject was murdered.

Day 1406 of Russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine.

As we approach the end of another year of my daily threads, I was to point out to Trump that his beloved Putin controls under 1% more of Ukraine than he did a year ago, and LESS than in early Nov 2022.

Heads up that this is authorization for Trump to create his own version of the Wagner Group. Which would bring the number of “armies” at his disposal to four:

*regular armed forces (most regulated)
*ICE (minimally regulated)
*private mercenaries (?)
*MAGA thugs/militias (rogue)

All pardonable
