If @johnkaralis.com had pitched this one at me I would have scoffed at him, which shows you what I know

Lmao 100%, my dad calls Nebraska the world's first drive-thru sensory deprivation chamber

My old band used to do play in Lincoln and Kearney, and Aurora was smack in the middle. Obviously you could tell it was a HOTBED of athleticism.
February 4, 2026 at 2:47 AM
Having been to Aurora not once but twice, I find it hilarious that an NBA player is from there lol

I would describe Payton Pritchard's sideline response about going back to the bench as "terse."

If Baylor Scheierman went to a significantly better barber and put on a No. 32 Mavs jersey, he could pass as Cooper Flagg for several minutes before someone realized what was going on

The NBA in 2026: Feel the excitement!
Yeah I think it's a contract trade more than anything on the court
February 3, 2026 at 9:34 PM
Brad is smarter than me, so I assume this is a great trade but I can’t say I see it lol

I have never in my life seen a better example of Information Divulged Through Syntax Comprehended By Many

Obviously the big story is Shams hilariously choosing to disguise the identity of a Mysterious Milwaukee Star that the Timberwolves will be pursuing, but also labeling Kevin Huerter a "sharpshooter" is quite the stretch.
Bulls and Pistons have desires met here in a young and veteran guards to Chicago and a sharpshooter goes to Detroit. Minnesota creates significant tax savings and roster space as they pursue a Milwaukee star this week.

Cursed to have chosen (!) to cheer for Tottenham Hotspur.

Blessed to watch Xavi Simons play.
February 1, 2026 at 7:44 PM
Wow, "problem"?? Are you saying that Jayson Tatum is a PROBLEM? He's going to leave because of YOU
January 29, 2026 at 3:59 PM
Listen, the Other Site has its flaws, but one thing it gets absolutely correct: It is @johnkaralis.com's fault that Jayson Tatum might not come back this year, so make sure you direct all complaints at him.
January 29, 2026 at 3:53 PM
Baylor Scheierman is REALLY strong, which honestly might be a little under-discussed.

In that alternate universe, Rob is actually in charge - he mastered the passage of minutes and hours, and now rules benevolently.

The only problem is nobody can think of a title for him.

- Fans no longer mashing together names to make them unsearchable
January 28, 2026 at 4:32 PM
Tbh I think it's less about specific posters and more about how Twitter used to be a hub for highlights/minutiae/inside jokes etc. for the obsessive fans, which drove interest and created other media content that hooked and engaged casual fans.

IMO the biggest issues facing the NBA are, in some order:

- The CBA being boring-complicated, not fun-complicated
- The 2016 Finals being a brutally tough act to follow
- The death of Twitter
The trade deadline is about a week away.

I spent a decade as maybe one of the 500 most informed people in the world on the NBA's CBA and now I can barely keep track of all the rules in the current deal.

This seems like a problem for a league that generates so much interest from transactions.

Yeah I realized that after I posted, that's abundantly fair

The thing that really hits you is how incredible so-called “normal,” “regular” people are
January 24, 2026 at 6:53 PM
Yeah, I stuck around for a bit. I probably (?) cost myself some career exposure, but yesterday I saw Karalis getting absolutely screamed at for something he wrote in 2021 (which at the time was honestly pretty fair!), and I'm just like ... at what cost lol

The loss of The Other Site was (I am sorry to have to admit) painful for a lot of people my age - this seems analogous for a younger generation.
REMINDER: As of yesterday, Larry Ellison has officially taken control of TikTok in the US.
