I've done a whole bunch of talks, interviews and stuff on other people's YouTube channels over the years so I'm going to try and catalog them here.

First up is a video with my good friend STÖK in which I demo some big bounty workflow stuff.

This one is special.

A Red-tailed Hawk that had just flown in to perch along the path. Check out the pupils! The pupil in the sunlight is smaller, while the pupil in the shade is larger. Most raptors can adjust their pupil size independently based on the amount of light that is reaching the eye, which optimizes vision.

Fair's fair, if I knew I'd be putting my name on this I wouldn't have been able to sleep either
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

A lot of folks know me for one or two posts, and might not know I've created nine (9!) visual explanations of computer science topics, aimed at practitioners.

If you're looking for things to read this Thanksgiving, I think you'll love them.

Computer science is a lot of fun, when explained well. ❤️

Gooners never say die
Overheard my kids saying "Gooning" to each other. Me being of a certain age shouted "I love that film" apparently Gooning is not the Goonie. My two girls 12 and 16 were horrified and in fits of laughter at me.

One lesson from yesterday's AWS outage is that we found a flaw in the advice to "have a Signal groups with core staff as a backup channel during outages". (So change that to also have their phone numbers so you can use WhatsApp or Telegram or SMS if needed.)

Guess I've always been old 🙃

YSK: properly fitting shoes are comfortable immediately.

"You need to wear them in before they're comfortable" is something impatient parents tell their kids when they're tired of school shoe shopping, then the kids grow up believing it and tell their kids...
Ageing is realising shoe comfort matters. I used to wear pointy formal shoes for work, but upgraded to Doc Martens. Now realised they're too heavy and got some Skechers. Old.
