Just want to point out on the video RFK JR ran the second the event started.

So the best we can say, making an assumption based on his initial velocity and likelihood of a distance needed to stop and catch one's breath, is that he stood some several hundred yards away from the moment of crisis.

If I only I had written a scene where a “macho” officer on the witness stand is sobbing while describing the trauma of having the flat side of a hoagie - thrown from 2 feet away - hit him in his bulletproof protected chest.

I mean, that’s comedy gold right there.

This #Ecosde2Cañones footage fr the Patagonian shelf break is an excellent example of collective foraging behavior. Fish & other creatures navigate deep-sea currents to access an area rich w/nutrients — these vital energy hubs at the interface of shelf & open Ocean.

This just landed in my feed on YouTube.
My first thought was "I wonder if you know about this?"
20 seconds later I had my answer...

A trio of monster active regions have rotated into view over the Sun’s eastern horizon. Whilst the front of the Sun has been quiet for a while, these regions were producing significant activity on the Sun’s backside. They will rotate to face Earth later this week. #spaceweather

There are so very, very many things that irk me in the Jurassic movies (80% due to script writers, 19% directors). One consistent flaw is herbivore = not dangerous.

Maybe, for starters, take the scriptwriters on a playdate with some wild rhinos.

This quote from the article sums up the situation at GSFC:
"I feel like the people I work with, myself included, have just been demoralized, exhausted, terrified, frustrated and angry, for months and months on end with no pause whatsoever."
NASA is sinking its flagship science center during the government shutdown — and may be breaking the law in the process, critics say
"There is just a general acknowledgement that a lot of what is happening is illegal…"

The golden hour 🌅. So a mast year for Holly?
Looks like my holly, jolly Christmas will be a lot more hollier this year.

I took these during the last few minutes of daylight, which washed out the greens a bit.

Hurricane Melissa is undergoing rapid intensification and is likely to reach Cat 5 strength as she slowly closes in on Jamaica and Haiti. Not a good scenario.

Had a great radio contact, this morning, with Flight Engineer Mike Fincke (KE5AIT) aboard the ISS. The students from Larissa, Greece were able to ask the astronaut all twenty of their planned questions. #ARISS #NASA #ISS

Tried to join a Teams meeting.

It's a new phone, so Teams was not set up.

I install it, supply userid and passwd -- MS sends a 2FA code to my Outlook app.

Outlook was also not yet set up.

This is good reporting on the disaster in Alaska if you're looking for a reliable summary.

This is a bigger disaster than I think most are realizing. 1500 people have been displaced by the flooding with an exceptionally complicated response and recovery.
