Sheesh. Embarrassing.
"There is this persistent idea that the U.S. invades countries for oil. And I think it was really not the case in Iraq ....Oil, there's too much of it right now for global demand. ...It doesn't strike me that it's enough to drive this," says @profsaunders.bsky.social.

Seriously: fuck the United States.

This is my considered opinion after 30 years of political science.

So one of my banks Bank Australia transfers money instantly while one of my banks National Australia Bank keeps the money for itself for several days before completion.

Bank Australia the best and most ethical bank I've used.

NAB is the worst.

These freaks want territorial expansion and they know Trump will do everything he can to deliver.

This isn’t just a tweet from some random asshole either. This is Stephen Miller’s wife. Miller was in the room with Trump during the kidnapping of Maduro.

This is a better framing.

The US has always been a ruthless (and incompetent) empire.

Largely given up on pretending.
The kidnapping of Maduro inaugurates a highly dangerous era of U.S. empire that for perhaps the first time in an era of mass media is not pretending to be anything other than a violent, extractive enterprise of domination.

To be fair its always been like this.

Just nicer words and greater efforts to deceive in the past ...
Quick update for US media: the story is not about Maduro or what’s going on in Venezuela. It’s about the massive rupture in US history where the country now stands for invading and occupying any country it likes.

Trump in his press conference made it very clear this is a new age. Did you miss that?

Another downside of spending ungodly amounts on the military is that you become prone to doing the things like this. It’s the international equivalent of leaving loaded assault rifles scattered around your house.

Murder, kidnapping, theft, greed and arrogance - Trump’s war on Venezuela is all of this. The US is a brutal and dangerous ‘ally’ that Australia, and the rest of the world, needs to protect itself from

Stewart Lee starts the new year absolutely on point.

So "globalise the intifada" seems to be this year's "from the river to the sea".

We're still cool with people flying Southern Cross flags though right? Got it.
Stewart Lee: Did you say ‘intifada’? The language police would like a word
Some protests are forbidden. Others – such as flying an England flag outside an Asian person’s front door – are not. How’s a poor copper to know the difference?

What’s more absurd than Israel blocking aid organizations from Gaza is the fact that it’s accepted that Israel should have the power to decide how the people of Palestine live. Every story is framed as if it’s normal and natural for them to rule over another people like that.
