Caster #Semenya wins her ECtHR case - but with a GC decision that is VERY different from the Chamber ruling. Court rules (very oddly, IMHO) that Switzerland has no jurisdiction in relation to Art. 8, 14 and 13 ECHR; finds violation of Art. 6(1). Lots of scrutiny of compulsory sport arbitration.
Caster Semenya: South African double Olympic champion wins partial victory at European Court of Human Rights in her long legal battle over athletics' sex eligibility rules.

I recently wrote about the quasi-conclave of the IOC, having little idea that we would be talking about an actual papal conclave in short course. In the piece, I discuss how the election of Kirsty Coventry as new IOC President might shape the organisation's positioning in global governance.

This is an excellent example of "lawyer brain". The ruling may (or may not) make technical sense and I'm sure the court does not *want* to take away trans rights. But that is what this judgment will do, no matter that they performatively add this should not lead to trans discrimination.
UK SC's definition of 'woman' is a serious affront to decades of labour in queer studies to decouple sex & gender that even WHO recognises. It's a colonial-racial chokehold to safeguard power of TERFs & GCs. Moving forward, all women will have rights curtailed.

We are back to 1967 when the IAAF first used cheek swabs for "sex determination." They later rejected swabs for being unscientific --chromosomes alone do not indicate sex--and an invasion of privacy. Now they've decided to revive this horrible practice and relive the worst parts of its history.
World Athletics says it has approved the introduction of a cheek swab test to determine if an athlete is biologically female.

#velvetrevolution 35 years ago was a Tuesday. Strike activity has spread from Prague to almost all universities in Czechoslovakia. The co-ordination centre was at DAMU - the Theatre Faculty of the APA. In contrast, the state was mobilising the army and 4000 civil militias were deployed in Prague.

#velvetrevolution 35 years ago was a Monday. Most universities in Prague were striking at this point. Yet, the Czechoslovak federal government was insistent that the police actions at Národní třída on the 17th were proportionate and acceptable. Unavoidably heading to contestation.
