Stranger in a strange land, transplanted from the Midwest to California. If I say "pop" it means soda. She/her
Here’s a pic I took earlier this week (before the rain). I’ve been exploring some new roads in the pretty neighborhood where I go to walk.

Another squirrel that wanted his picture taken… and the turkeys who scared it away.

Pretty soon it’s gonna be all skittles and starburst and if you’re thinking that sounds good then you weren’t there for the days of Milky Way and Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Yesterday, at a bookstore, I got into an indecisive spiral about which novel to choose & everything seemed jagged & wrong & I sort of felt as if hounds were pursuing me & I ended up in front of Moll goddamn Flanders, like, “Maybe?”

The latest amazing turn of phrase from MJM: “everything seemed jagged & wrong & I sort of felt as if hounds were pursuing me”.

I finally got a video of the Tom Turkeys acting all tough.

The HOA* guys have already cleaned up the leaves from this weekend.

*Neighborhood where I walk, not where I live.

There is no more horrible bastard on Earth than the guy who owned your house before you.
Talked to the contractor replacing our front porch.

I noticed he was hammering in stakes to mark where the footings are going to go with no apparent resistance in the ground that might indicate any previous footings present.

"So that was load-bearing lattice?" says I.

"Oh yeah," says he.

One weekend’s worth of leaves.

The hard one, the easy one, the stepstool one. Good luck with your time today!

Until I get the step ladder out to reach the clock, I put up this post-it note to remind me of the time change.

Did you hear about the guy who had his whole left side removed? He is all right now but has nothing left.😉

So glad I made myself get out for a walk today.

Today's date, 9/25/2025, is probably the last date of our lifetime where the month, day, and year are all square numbers 😱 The next time this will happen is on 1/1/2116.

Our Party City closed down and they didn’t even put the Spirit Halloween in it. Too soon I guess.

From my walk this morning. (If you zoom in you can see who I saw cross the street right in front of me to casually stroll down the very steep slope on the left.)

I came upon a new hazard on the trail today. I think I will turn around and not tempt fate by walking under this damaged tree.

When I go to a craft fair, I love a little dish, a little bowl, a little container. Do I have anything to put in it? No. Does that stop me? No.

It is late August in the Midwest, but I saw someone in a zipped up windbreaker and a crossbody bag. Like an autumnal Mary Poppins, I sense the winds are changing. Time to shift the Halloween yard decor to the front of the garage. It’s almost time, breezy ghostie!

The center of this post is a charming vignette, but the edges? That's where all the shrieking happens.
