Too stubborn to give up on better things being possible.
Ah yes, the political genius of telling parents who are doing it tough to "just be better".

Absolutely asinine.

Luxon on school lunches: Make a Marmite sandwich
The Prime Minister has suggested parents dissatisfied with school lunches should "make a Marmite sandwich and put an apple in a bag."

Everybody worried that Trump is the next fascist when really Elon is the new Mao initiating the "Great Leap Forward".

Consider this quote on the events that lead to the Great Leap from Kenneth Lieberthal's 'Governing China: From Revolution Through Reform'...

What would a TV ad promoting alternatives to driving look like? What if people who love cycling and progressive transportation reclaimed ideas like freedom, independence and even patriotism? We decided to give it a shot. Check out our new video, "America, It's Just Like Riding a Bike."

Remember when Xitter was a place where people would boil down complex subjects to simple language for the masses?

We are back and better than ever.
Another myth 🧵 This one is tricky as it challenges a neoliberal paradigm that a lot of progressives have adopted. The myth of 'taxpayer funding'. Let's take this one slowly and use some monumentally crap pictures to illustrate (I'm not proud). [1/n]

If "America" is a feminine name ending in 'a', and Mexico is a masculine name ending in 'o'...

Did the "Gulf of America" just change their name and gender?

Cities that only deliver "the basics" are failed cities.

The whole purpose of bringing all those people together is to do better than "basic".

Kinda weird how the U.S. is the only country with a serious Fentanyl epidemic.

It's almost like it's an outcome of U.S. policy settings.

Your regular reminder that New Zealand already has the ability to rapidly and massively reduce climate-damaging pollution, and that if we did so, it would be a huge boost for the economy.

Politicians are choosing not to do so because their supporters would lose money, not because it can't be done.

If you hadn't told me this was some CIA sabotage manual, I would have thought it was in-house policy for Auckland Transport.

Speed limit e-assistance to 25km/h (15mph).

No other regulation is both workable and effective.

"Reality has a left-wing bias"

At some point we need to have the conversation around how right-wing political leanings are a sign of mental illness: Delusion, paranoia and sociopathy.

I can quit most apps, but Instagram still fills a particular niche for me.

A simple way to share daily images of life so that those interested can see them.

You're going to see a lot of "Well the homes shouldn't be there" takes as climate breakdown occurs. It's a bad take, and here's why:

Today it's Malibu, but most commonly I see it when homes are destroyed by waterways reasserting themselves across floodplains, such as recently in Valencia...
Those neighborhoods in the chapparal valleys/hillsides shouldn't have been built to begin with; perfect conditions for firestorms. They compounded the danger by making most neighborhoods only serviced by two-lane roads with only one way out.

Funny thing is that Gary Holmes and the Dom Rd Business Association railed against surface light rail through their neighbourhood.

This lead to political direction to tunnel the ALR proposal, which ultimately killed the project and left Dom Rd with nothing.

"Affordable housing" isn't something that gets built.

Affordability is what happens to existing housing stock when newer, more expensive homes become available for the people who can afford them—provided the total number of homes increases.

Build more housing, not cheap housing.

Petition to use tactical interventions (AKA planter boxes) to create safe pedestrian and cycle routes, then rename it the "Simeon Brown Memorial Intersection".
A very amateur guess as to what % of the Warkworth project budget is going to the cycleways:

AT costs a raised crossing $19k~$31k. 6 raised crossings across the various roundabout legs means an upper bound of $186,000.
