It would be much better news if it read:
“Bali Zoo is closing permanently. Any animals capable of surviving in the wild will be rewilded, and the rest will go to reputable sanctuaries to live out their lives in peace and away from human exploitation.”
Better still if that read “all zoos are closing”
Bali Zoo has ended elephant rides!

Elephants are intelligent, social animals. Many scars come from being forced to perform or carry people. Animals are still exploited for tourism worldwide, but this is a step forward we should see everywhere.

We’ve all been taught to see some animals as family, while viewing others as food, entertainment, or objects. 🐶🐮

We must challenge that bias and recognise all animals for who they truly are: sentient beings worthy of respect. 🙏💚

Plant-based diets “can support healthy living at every age & life stage” (British Dietetic Association). Therefore, meat is a luxury that should be taxed at the same level of VAT as other luxuries.
‘Meat tax’ could have significant impact on environmental footprint, study finds
Full VAT on meat products could cost EU households as little as €26 a year but cut impact by 3-6%, says paper

Oh, pleassseee! What could possibly go wrong if you were sailing nuclear reactors around increasingly stormy, little regulated, politically unstable seas? Has anyone thought about pirates? 🤦

Vegetarians, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good it feels to ditch the mental gymnastics one has to use to justify supporting the dairy and egg industries. Many (most?) vegans started as vegetarians, including me. I went vegan the moment I learned about dairy and eggs...best decision ever.

To paraphrase Mr. McCartney: ‘Let them be.’

ALL animal testing belongs in the septic tank of history. It’s bad ”science”, if you can even call it science at all.

In #Japan, snow monkeys suffer invasive brain surgery & death in meaningless experiment to study what lies behind motivation in people. Heartbreaking that these #macaques - revered throughout history in Japan - can be exploited & treated so inhumanely. tinyurl.com/mr2er2ya

The last parliament was overwhelming in favour of a trophy hunting ban; the Labour government had it in its 2024 manifesto - but of course Donald Trump is trying to over-ride the view of the British people on #AnimalAbuse

Cancer warnings should be on all animal products that are known carcinogens, not only in the UK but worldwide, just as they’re required on cigarettes. Proof that the animal ag industry owns legislatures. Families of people who die from disease caused by animal products should be told the root cause.

For all those who are opposed to immigration, let them understand that the UK has always had immigrants, and people were emigrating too. In the 1861 census of Liverpool, 50% of the population were immigrants.

It’s sad that so many people either can’t grasp the concept or just don’t care, but all life is intertwined and interdependent. Humans in their arrogance are responsible for the extinction of thousands of species each year, tearing at the very fabric of life itself.

@nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social MPs have just voted to abolish the right to protest against animal testing in the UK. The Lords have the power to refuse this legislation, demand changes & send it back to the Commons. Please debate this surrender to bad science and its unjust clamp-down on protest.

Another own goal by the Daily Heil, perhaps they could break the habits of a lifetime and report - facts. 🤔
Daily Mail confused again.

Not uncomfortable supporting women in Iran or calling out the regime’s digital blackout.

What is uncomfortable is the hypocrisy of those supporting genocide in Gaza while pretending to be champions of human rights.

Silent when journalists are banned.
