Ordered a new laptop from Newegg yesterday, and it got here today - wrong specs. Not blaming them, was a "seller" company on their site, but 1/2 the RAM and wrong Windows listed in specs sticker. Box seemingly unopened but brand tape rumpled. I did NOT open, took photos, returned immediately.

While I do love seeing all the spooky Halloween books on sale this month, it has triggered this rant about one of my web pet peeves - sites that disable the ability to Ctrl-Click and open in a new tab. WHYYYYY?

I also managed a 10/10 - when seen side by side the answer is pretty obvious. There were a 2 that I had to look at a little longer before deciding, but for the other 8 my snap judgement was right.
I got 10/10 on this. When it's a matter of directly comparing a real picture to a fake one...the fake ones look fake! Shiny and perfect and glossy.

Less easy when it's not a direct comparison obv, but in general, if it looks too good to be true...

I've been participating in a Johns Hopkins survey on COVID for... a year or two? Latest update just came in, and interestingly, @rahaeli.bsky.social, they have added questions about hypermobility, flexibility, double-jointedness, etc.

I feel this so hard... and some mornings just require a cup of Death Wish, to heck with the consequences!

That's another good one for my "I noticed this and now I can't ignore it" list. My list includes:

1) Having whiskey at their desk. Cops, lawyers, detectives, doctors, they all grab a tumbler of hard liquor. Who actually does that? That is the LAST place I want to be drinking.
I’ve noticed in cop shows they always have these perfect portraits of suspects to post on their little cork boards but whoa dang, who is printing those out and cutting them up so the leads can pin them up and talk about them

That’s a whole production team

They better be getting good coffee

Sekhmet gets to go home tomorrow! I'm so happy for her and Kiki and V, surviving bird flu is a big deal!
My girl is doing so well 😭
Dove Lewis staff told me they will throw a celebration when she's discharged. She's miraculous.

Oh yes, I know that one. My sweet snuggly boy has the worst gas this morning and I am just dreading the inevitable. Here's hoping it's the downstairs box and not the one in my office, mid-meeting!
Is there anything worse than the sinking feeling in the seconds between when the cat launches out of the litterbox yodeling her victory cry and when the smell catches up to you

This looks amazing, never thought of adding apples! @shiftypumpkin.com makes ours with an orange juice base so it's nice and tart. We'll have to try adding apples sometime, I bet they are tasty with all the fall spices in there.
Making cranberry sauce. This year it's honeycrisp apples and red wine.

This is the best thing ever, it just makes me smile. The tone of voice on some words (willy, boobs) makes them stand out in the best way from the sea of other regular curses. If I am having a bad day at the online office, this will cheer me right up!
I've added a few extra expletives to SwearSky, and made it only respond to 'whole' words to alleviate the Scunthorpe problem. I did enjoy it finding swears within innocent words, but the pedant in me couldn't let it lie.

Yep, and also "I don't want to" is a perfectly valid reason to not do something, no notes.
Just to clarify:

If I quit listening to you, it’s not censorship. I haven’t silenced you. I will even defend your right to keep making noise.

I am not, however, obliged to hear it. And I need no other reason than I just don’t wanna.

Thank you for coming to my Pro Echo Chamber Ted Talk.

Vax report day 2 - still a sore arm, little bit achey but I can't differentiate between shots vs. just being old, ha. Sleep was not too bad, only got up 3 times to pee (thanks, extra shingles hydration). Drinking some Death Wish coffee and having banana bread, all is good!

Getting the COVID booster and a shingles vax today, and just took the extra antihistamines to prep. Hydration for shingles.... working on it, but I gotta finish my coffee or I won't be awake enough to get the jab.
Because the new COVID vaccine is out and someone asked me for a reminder: it's 50mg diphenhydramine 15m before the shot or 20mg cetirizine 2-3 hours before (if you have MCAS add an extra 20mg famotidine + 10mg montelukast (if taking) when you take the others) to avoid feeling like death

I need to convince several of my loved ones of this concept...
Anxiety FEELS like action, but it's not. There's no prize for worrying. It just steals your time.

My work life changed for the better when I realized this - Work is work, the rest is MINE. Doing extra / good / hard work? Only results in more work and no appreciation, because it's a BUSINESS and it wants profit. Not good things for ME. That's my responsibility.
I think a lot about how much we are asked to sacrifice for capitalism, and sacrifice our own reality models so those in power feel better about theirs. I can give you 8 hours of my brain a day. But you can't control what I think and feel, and that's intolerable to some. Yes, I think about this a lot

Took me over 4 months to finally score an invite, which isn't bad considering how non-social I am! But it was quite frustrating for those months, watching all my interesting people migrate away, and not being able to follow. Glad to be here now!

thinking about forgotten computer sounds we no longer hear:

• the grinding noise of a defragmenting hard drive
• the BZWOMM of the monitor degauss button
• the squeal of an ejecting floppy drive
• the crackle of static as you switch off a CRT monitor
• the horrifying shriek of a dot matrix printer

I started watching the new Netflix series "Kaos" and was enjoying it, got all the way up to ep4 in one sitting. Will not watch any more though, because [spoiler reasons involving Dennis].
