Janet Hill‬'s Birdathon #AlphabetOfBirds
Amazing! Bird word! Collection! Don't miss! Every letter!
My Birdathon #AlphabetOfBirds continues!

*W* is for wings. Whether it’s the blur of a hummingbird, the flutter of a blue jay fledgling, the massive span of an American pelican or the flash of a red-winged blackbird, wings truly set (almost all) #birds apart from us earth-bound creatures (1/2)

What a better way to celebrate #StPatrick'sDay than with a little pot of shamrocks, and the emerald green, absolutely striking cover of @susannakearsley.bsky.social 's new book #TheKing'sMessenger. Congrats, Susanna!

Using royalties from her novel, Barbara Kingsolver purchased a house, fixed it up and established a nonprofit recovery residence called Higher Ground. Here, in rural Southwest Virginia, women can live for up to 2 years while they get their lives back in order.

We didn't have paper in the 14th century, but by the 17th century, when the pattern was made, imported paper had replaced vellum. If you want to read more, you can look through this website of an interesting project about paper in Iceland.
Paper Trails to Iceland: Watermarks and Paper Trade
Although paper came already in the fifteenth century to Iceland, we do not know where it was produced or who sold it. In our research project “Paper Trails” we aim to fill these gaps in our knowledge...

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

A view I'd love to have on this cold, snowy day.
Thanks for sharing @thecraigmancometh.bsky.social,
especially the context that the heron was aiming at fish under the ice.
There were many herons working the melting ice this morning. I did witness the heron in the middle of the group shot try to stab at a fish that swam under the ice.

If you need a distraction, @carlbergstrom.com has provided the perfect 42-part dissertation on crows ... and ravens.
It seems to me that the time is ripe for a Bluesky thread about how—and maybe even why—to befriend crows.

Dear Nnedi, I just opened my Advance Reading Copy to this page, and quickly turned to the second page. #DeathoftheAuthor has me hooked already as you drive off into the night ....
The first page of DEATH OF THE AUTHOR.
Even in these few words, there's so much coded in there. My sister Ifeoma Okorafor's middle name is Chinyere, btw, heh. This novel comes out in two months and I still can't believe it. #DeathoftheAuthor🤖

This is why I found myself a job as a bookseller.
Staff discounts help when your child reads a book a day.
We have an overdue library book, and youngest wants to continue reading it. I went ahead and bought it for her so someone else can enjoy the book. She was so stoked and now she wants the next 2. Libraries may not “sell” books but they do sell books, if you know what I mean
