@irishrainforest.bsky.social doing God's work on the Beara Peninsula.

My grandfather and 1000s more emigrated from Beara to the Butte, MT mines in early 1900s. He took up bootlegging instead. Took $ back & moved the family north to easier farming in County Meath

Sword Hilt • Donegal • c.2000 years old

This bronze sword hilt was found by fishermen in the harbour at Ballyshannon, Donegal.

It has similarities with Iron Age examples from the 1st century BC from France and Yorkshire.

You can see it on display in the Treasury of @nmireland.bsky.social

The absolute state of us!
"Our waters are crying out for a break from the pollution, Irish people [want] clean water, but our voices are drowned out in a world of political wrangling and vested interest.

[But] you can’t drink politics."

Most Irish people want clean water, not a nitrates derogation
Has the Government ever asked the people of Ireland if they agree with pulling on the green jersey to convince Europe to give us another derogation?

I watched yesterday's webinar on this subject, and it really does feel like a whole new frontier of exciting possibilities and potential is opening up in how we grow food, and how that impacts on the natural world.

Hope at a time when it's in short supply!

7,319 of these amazing, gorgeous native animals were culled by the Irish state last year alone, and 66,000 since 2014, in a pointless, cruel attempt to eliminate bovine TB, despite a promise to switch to vaccinations.

It's near certain the American Civil War saw more Cork men in uniform than any other conflict. That's reflected in the 19th century U.S. pensions paid out in Ireland, where Cork tops the list with almost 100 men and women identified so far. Interactive Map here: storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/4e3d...

Cnoc Raithní • Inis Oírr

This unusual feature, with its two upstanding pillar stones, marks a burial mound that was rediscovered and excavated in 1885 after a storm blew away the sand that covered it.

The dig revealed Bronze Age urns and human remains that were dated to c.1500 BC.
