At the Nov evening Houston city council session. Telling of the *city's priorities* that Shabazz +Whitmire have given Blodgett st haters more time to speak but are enforcing the 1 minute speaker rule for the many outraged at the family separations HPD and ICE are carrying out

If this shutdown continues into the holidays and I don’t end up visiting my family out of state, I’m probably just gonna take a trip to Dallas this winter.

This was a hoot to see in person, dw it’ll make it to social media soon enough.
A pride crosswalk speaker asked the audience to raise their hands if the Whitmire administration has made their lives harder or hurt them and at least half of the room shot an arm up LMAO. Mood changed in the room, everyone was laughing and applauding.

Ok here’s a thread of speaker’s comments. If you are concerned about public transit, bikeways, over policing, read more below
This evening city council session has over 250 minute worth of speakers. So many are speaking on the pride crosswalk that the city secretary is calling speakers and begging them to surrender their time and “group your comments”- not happening!

Also this is all just so devastating as a climate guy. We can make quick progress on mobile emissions with tools cities already have. But here we are!!!
A few thoughts on the Metrorail reliability crisis.

Metro in a statement last week acknowledged the lengthy delays and said they knew the city was fuddling with transit signal priority.

This is a failure of agencies to work together.

This decision was made without the riding public’s input.

Even after the administration's illegal freeze on funds and massive program cuts via the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," there are still unspent pockets of federal money available to states.
States Have More Power Than They Think to Fund Sustainable Transportation — Streetsblog USA
As the Trump administration claws back money for sustainable modes, states have a big opportunity to fill the gap.

Good article. This problem is also rampant with trains - every agency wants custom kit instead of just buying things off the rack.
In the US, even a “cheap” transit bus costs 2-3x more than in Asia or Europe -- and one agency may pay twice as much as another for nearly identical vehicles.

In Bloomberg, I explored a ripe opportunity to improve transportation by applying Abundance-coded, supply-side reforms.

🧵
Why US Cities Pay Too Much for Transit Buses
A new paper argues that lack of competition, demand for custom features and “Buy America” rules have driven up costs for transit agencies in the US.

It can't be stressed enough: this kind of city is MORE accessible, with MORE choices for everyone. Reducing the number of cars driven by people who don't need to drive leaves more space for mobility vehicles and reduces journey times. Cars are expensive!
“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.”

Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability & quality of life.

Common sense.

Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.

I’ve watched about 70 speakers at Harris county court plead 4 funding of pollution control, eviction prevention, homeless services, and health services. Incredible mobilization. Big question is what the groups do when politicians double down on service cuts, imo

What’s cool about parking day at kefita coffee (details tbd 😬 )is that it’s a small business that exists basically bc of it being in the market based parking district. Lowering the barriers to small business ownership and entrepreneurship is a good idea. “Your local coffee shop”
