Tho maybe these shouldn't qualify as gadgetbahns? Many were genuinely basic research type experiments? But we also knew by then what worked and what machines actually existed? Idk if any of them were deliberately trying to undermine real HSR, like the boring company/loops did?

The USA has always entertained gadgetbahns in lieu of electric rail transport. Right, like, almost all products of the High-Speed Ground Transportation Act of 1965 are gimmicks? The Turboliners, the many diesel HSR trainsets, that air filled trainset idr the name of, etc.

We could use a smarter person to write up a response to anumber of the obviously bad faith arguments the current admin is making against road diets, right sized travel lanes, lower speed limits, bikeways, sidewalks, etc. an op-ed would do wonders right now, as we go into construction season
