Just. Words. Inspiring words.
I really like Detroit turning Jaden Ivey into a pick swap up 5-10 picks and Kevin Heurter. Really smart move. CHI is collecting guards to play in front of Coby White and Ayo which prob tells you what’s happening there.

Chris has a much more detailed approach to my scattershot analysis. We landed in roughly the same place, though he did venture a guess on a Ja deal, which I could not do.

@johnhollinger.bsky.social a long while ago I wrote a scathing take on the Marc Gasol trade bc I didn't recognize the usefullness of the TPE. I am older and wiser now, and have some hopium.

Folks, Utah is keeping their pick this year. I can’t say they will finish with a worse record than MEM. But they will be slotted 7th in the lottery or better.
February 3, 2026 at 7:49 PM
Just noting that Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid both fit into the MEM TPE that was created in the Jaren trade.

Per Jake Fischer, it’s:

“The Utah Jazz are trading their most favorable 2027 first-round pick (Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah), the Lakers' 2027 first-round pick, and Phoenix's 2031 first-round pick.”

I dont think this is going to be Utah's 2026 pick. It'll be their 2027, and a couple of the more favorables of the picks they have in the future. Something like that.

Sadness, ho.

Grizzlies look like a completely different team when the ball is in the hands of a ballhandler who has to be guarded at the three point line. How many healthy games should we expect from Jerome next year? 60? Fewer? More?
February 3, 2026 at 5:37 PM
A third team, you say?
Reporting on Kings and Raptors trade talks on Domantas Sabonis, which has included RJ Barrett and Ochai Agbaji, while a third team and draft compensation would be needed involving Jakob Poeltl. @codyhoudek.bsky.social the way you describe no country for old men is the experience I had reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, and cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. I could maybe think of more but the opening line of Gilead wrecks me every single time I read it.

The one (1) game I watched Akliouche play against us, he vaulted to the top of my list. Duran was awesome for Villa and is one of those "wingers who get shots" guys. I don't know anything about Diaby. Most likely nothing happens....

The fact that Xavi and Wirtz are starting to flourish at the same time in the Prem just goes to show the importance of affording time and patience to young players who need to adjust to the speed and physicality of this league. They’re now both instrumental for their respective teams.

I like that ATL is not being precious with their team. Selling parts before they get expensive. Another guard in Portland who gives them something else, but another point guard makes me think maybe Scoot is on his way out?
The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Vit Krejci to the Portland Trail Blazers for Duop Reath and two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Krejci has averaged 9 points and 2.2 3-pointers made per game on 42.3% shooting, which ranks top 20 in the NBA.

Not pictured, but MEM gets to swap either of their two 2030 1sts with CLE. The POR 1st is the cost of taking Pat Williams instead of Heurter. I think only CHI would say no to this, but it's not bad for them either (assuming they want to take a shot on Ja, which prob not).

I will take a tiny L because I was upset the Grizzlies did t trade for Deandre Hunter last trade deadline. Not that I thought he was good, but he was (is) still better than Marcus Smart.

OMG the Kings sent OUT a pick in a Keon Ellis trade.
February 1, 2026 at 4:53 AM
If SAC is using Ellis to get off the Schroeder deal, at the cost of taking back Hunter, man, that's pretty bad. Even if they get back a couple 2nds, that's rough. If they need forwards that bad, they can do better than letting Hunter play low stakes basketball again.
Sources: The Cavaliers and Kings have discussed a framework that would send De’Andre Hunter to Sacramento for Keon Ellis, Dennis Schroder, and Dario Saric.
