Just hopped on here to say the same. Also do book banners know/care Morrison read/references the Bible, a sacred text that is now used for hateful agendas? #BelovedFebruary

Excited to join this dialogue. I hope I can stay focused enough throughout the month to re-read these important words.
One of the values of a slow-read? Pausing at the biblical epigraph + going back to read through all of Romans 9...and then not being able to look away from this:

"Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden." 👀

Took a walk during lunch around school and tbh I get why schools don’t allow pets but the question is should they? At least outside in a contained area and they should be adorable dogs? For staff and students to pet?

Big news. Bookshop.org is now offering eBooks!

Bookshop is a big online consortium of indie bookstores. You shop like Amazon, but all the profits go to indies! There's no need to shop-- or to sell your books-- through Amazon again. I've used it for a couple years now.

Erase Bezos from your biz!
Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.
An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

Because when I was struggling in middle school and high school, I read books that glorified anorexia. They helped me become better at my disorder. They fueled the Voice. They hurt my heart.
This is an appreciation post for @skeetervm.bsky.social, the brilliant editor of Louder Than Hunger! As we worked on the novel in verse together, she was sensitive & smart. She understood why it was important for me to tell Jake's story—my story—without glorifying anorexia nervosa. Thank you, Susan!

When I train teachers about trauma-informed classrooms, I emphasize that you cannot simply declare that a person or a place is safe and make it so. People determine safety for themselves based on explicit and implicit cues of safety. (🧵 1/4)

Perfectly said! Reading choices are personal and unique to every child and family. Let's champion the freedom to read and respect everyone's right to choose!
We need to keep talking about how weird it is for people to think they should have a say in reading choices for anyone's kids but their own. You're not in charge of what other people's children eat or wear or when they go to bed. Why on earth would you get to choose what they read?

Moana 2 taught us why we should be nice to our siblings, why women in stem rock, why it’s important to write down and/or archive our histories, and the world is better if we’re connected by common goals rather than separated and isolated. 🥰

1/2 Tired from two full days of the AISLE conference but I am reminded in the face of very calamitous American politics that there are many people who care deeply about children, literacy, access to resources for all, and ensuring kids learn.
