Hi, everyone! I'm Skye, a field paleontologist and science communicator. I work for Elevation Science, a nonprofit based on research, education, and outreach. Right now, I study Jurassic sauropods and work in the Morrison Formation.

I can also yap about dinosaurs. Let's do it together sometime! 🦕🦖
I'm incredibly honored and excited to be a fellow author to all of these brilliant people. Some amazing new things in this volume!
Congrats to John Foster, Kelli Trujillo, ReBecca Hunt-Foster, and Spencer Lucas for seeing this latest Morrison volume across the finish line!!! There are so many new great things in this volume.
Papers galore; pdfs available through authors. @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social @agu.org

Episode 3 of Paleo Bites is up! ❤️🦴
All fossils are not created equally! 🦴

In this episode of Paleo Bites, we look at the most common ways fossils form, from mineral-filled bone to chemical replacement and compression fossils. Each process preserves different kinds of information about past life.

Dental replacement patterns and morphological diversity in Lower Jurassic sauropods from the Cañadón Asfalto Basin, Patagonia, Argentina
During their evolution, herbivores have developed various mechanisms to cope with dental wear. One such mechanism was an increase in the number of replacement teeth and in the rate of tooth replace...

It's #MuseumSelfieDay, so enjoy these that I took on my last visit to the AMNH!

I will forever be grateful to museums, these monuments to learning that are a big part of keeping science and history alive. Consider going to your local museum today and telling the dinosaurs I said hi!

Last summer, members of the MT Geo Society joined us in the field for a day of real, hands-on paleontology. One of them, Jess, captured the experience in this fun, educational vlog. Definitely worth a watch and checking out her other videos!

Meet Edmontosaurus! 🌿

One of my favorite dinosaurs and one of the most common and best understood from the Late Cretaceous.

Living ~68-66 million years ago, this "duck-billed" herbivore was built for efficiency, its broad beak for cropping plants and hundreds of teeth packed into dental batteries!

Having so much trouble figuring out social media algorithms. I feel like I've tried so many things; posting at the "right" times, making posts more interesting and adding "hooks", making videos shorter for attention span, etc.

Social media has never made sense, but it sure doesn't now. Frustrating.

New research on T. rex growth! 🦖

By analyzing growth rings in leg bones from 17 tyrannosaurs, scientists found that T. rex was a late bloomer, taking ~35–40 years to fully mature. The study also highlights major variation in growth, raising new questions about tyrannosaur diversity.

Someone on TikTok commented on my new T. rex growth video and said:

"This is really cool but you sound like Mr. DNA from Lego Jurassic World."

I...what? Thank you? I guess? I have no idea.

Fossils aren't just bones!

It's easy to think of giant sauropod leg bones or a terrifying theropod claw, but what about other kinds of fossils? They can come in the form of sea shells, coprolites, or even footprints!

Thanks for joining us for episode 2 of Paleo Bites! 🦴

Ajkaceratops...is actually a ceratopsian?

A new paper confirms that Ajkaceratops does indeed belong to Ceratopsia! Not only that, but some other rhabdodontids do too.

Were you surprised by this news? Congratulations to Susannah Maidment and fellow authors on this paper! 🎉

Ancient climates 🤝 today’s lessons.

We were recently shown on CBS LA in a segment on fossils, the K–Pg boundary, and what past climate change can teach us now. Huge thanks to Marina Jurica & her son John for letting us be part of the journey!

The debate is over — Nanotyrannus lives!

Well, it used to anyway. Scientists have now confirmed the existence of the tiny tyrant, #Nanotyrannus, ending an almost century-long debate among #dinosaur experts and enthusiasts. Not only does Nanotyrannus exist, but there are now two recognized species!
